The general forum for the sat

Okay, here's the deal. I'm a male junior from New Jersey, and I really just want to create a forum where any one can ask a question about anything involving the SAT. It can be about anything. On my SAT, I got 800 in math, 800 in writing (80/80 raw score and a 12 essay) and also a 750 in Critical Reading, so ask away, about anything. Any questions you have for a practice test. Any strategies for doing well. How to study, etc. By the way, I also got 800 math2, 800 bio molecular, and 800 US history, so if you have any questions about them, feel free to ask as well.

No need to create a thread for this. People would post in this forum anyway for any questions regarding SAT.

Well while it’s here…

How did you mange to increase your reading score or was it natural to you?

Half of it was natural, half wasn’t. The first time I took the SAT, I got a 650 reading. When I got my score report back, I saw that I got a lot of the sentence completion ones wrong, and only 2 of the actual passage based reading ones. So I just studied vocabulary. I found that the Hot Words for the SAT book is the best. It chunks groups of words together that all have around the same definition, which makes it really easy to memorize them. Then, after I studied all the vocab for a couple of weeks, I started practicing all the sentence completions I could find, even if they weren’t official SAT practice tests. Then the next time I took the SAT, I only got 1 sentence completion wrong, and a couple of the passage based ones.

If you need help on the passage based questions (if you’re taking the June SAT, it’s obviously too late for you), just read everything and anything. Read the newspaper during tv commercials, or magazine articles, or books. But whatever you read, don’t just read and forget. While you’re reading, try to pull out the thesis and the main ideas, and really understand the article, so when the SAT comes around, you’re ready to read anything and understand it fully.

Yea I guess I have to become an “active” reader and actually “work” instead of passively reading.
