DIL is expecting our first grandson in January. They live so far away but SW flies DC to Denver so I think we will make some kind of lifetime status on SW before long They live in a small house so it is hard for them to have company stay. Anyone with experience being the far away MIL and visiting baby?
Long distance grandmother here. I live in CA and daughter and son live on the opposite coast. Daughter has twin baby boys and I just came back from visiting them. That would have been my third trip so far this year. We are going again at Thanksgiving.
Daughter has no room to host us and we’ve been staying with son who has a 2BR and he has no kids yet. He is happy to host us but my H and I feel we are imposing on him and his wife especially now that we want to stay longer than a week because my husband is working less. We finally bought a pied-à-terre nearby.
I think you are a more appropriate audience than my earlier endeavor…I am in love with my almost 4 week old grandson. What a feeling!
We babysat our 6 week old grandson for the first time tonight, for a grand total of about 2.5 hours, but still. It’s a start. And yes, I have forgotten! All I knew is I didn’t want him to be unhappy for one moment.
And OMG, is he ever CUTE! I’m in love. Of course.

We are blessed to live so close to D and SIL. I am hoping to babysit often. We found out a few weeks ago that our grandchild will be a BOY! We are thrilled!

Our son and DIL just told us they are expecting their third. Their oldest will be 3 1/2 when baby is born. We live very close by so get to babysit often. It’s the biggest joy in our life. Other son has two little girls but they live far away. They do come to visit a few times a year and luckily we have a house big enough that they can stay here. We visit them about once a year and stay in a hotel because their place is tiny. I like it best when they are here because all the grand kids get to play together. So far, four kids under three. Such fun.
A suggestion for those of you visiting the family who are also animal people. Trusted Housesitters is a website that puts together travelers. I go on vacation, you stay at my house for free, but you take care of my animals. I am intrigued by it and currently observing fantasy locations, but it could work in your kid’s city, too, if you are an animal lover!
Just spent another sweet Sunday evening with our little guy. he is soooooo sweet. 8 weeks old now.
Can’t tell anyone IRL, but DD told me she has gone off BC.
