I guess it is time to out myself as a member of the expectant grandmother club as I’ve been given permission to start sharing with IRL friends. S & DIL are expecting in late September. Like SplashMom, they don’t know the sex yet and the last time it was discussed, they were uncertain as to whether they would find out or if they found out if they would share beyond themselves. Hoping they decide to find out and share, at least with me!! This baby is going to be far away (15 hour car trip which I’ve never made or 7 hours of drive/fly) and that is going to be hard. Thank goodness for FaceTime!
So much great news! Wishing healthy pregnancies to all.
Thank you, CountingDown! I’m very excited. Congratulations, 2VU0609, on the upcoming birth of your grandbaby. I had to keep the secret for two full months, and I thought I would burst!!! DD and hubby wanted to be sure all was well with the baby because it appears there was a vanishing twin.
What do you want to be (or what are you) called? My DS’s inlaws already have grandma/grandpa Firstname (they have 2 grandkids already)>>>>>>>>>>
My grandson is six months old and right now I don’t know! My mom was “Mamaw” and I find I use that in speaking to him. I always thought I’d be “Nana”. So, we are going to see how it evolves.
Congrats @SplashMom and @2VU0609 ! Brings new meaning to waiting for the release date
Speaking as a veteran Grandma, get on their email list. They have good sales ALL the time!
I’ve posted this link on CC before but will add it here. I don’t know this woman personally and get no benefit from sales, but I highly recommend these beautiful blankets as a nice baby gift. I’ve bought them for my grandkids and also as a gift for other newborns.
These are beautiful blankets and Elaine is lovely to deal with.
I ordered based on alwaysamom’s recommendation up-thread and give Elaine a 5 star review.
Can someone tell me how expensive the blankets with names are from Elaine?
Also, barefoot dreams baby blankets are incredibly soft. (I got my 22 yo son a barefoot dreams throw, bc he loves very soft things, and he uses it all the time).
Any other recommendations for very nice “high end” (at least for me) baby blankets? I’m looking to spend somewhere around $40-$60 or so, and I want it to be something the expectant mom wouldn’t buy herself.
Thanks in advance
Btw, I’m not a grandparent to be, but I figured this is a good group to ask.
Here is Ellaine’s price page. They’re not inexpensive but they truly are a special gift.

Lolli Living/Living Textiles has some lovely bedding items, including blankets.

I love the Aden and Anais blankets. My granddaughter who is 7 still loves these and they’ve been around since she was a baby. Other than Ellaine’s blankets, I think these will always be my favorites.
Just a warning…don’t overdo the blankets. Babies use them a LOT less these days. They can’t be used in cribs at all. Even the vast majority of toddlers use sleep sacks instead of blankets these days. My grandkids use them mostly in a baby carriage or stroller or as cushioning on a wooden floor. My very good friend made some spectacular ones for my grandchildren…truly unique. The regular “nice” ones they have don’t get used. This is the sort of thing most infants sleep in these days. http://www.halosleep.com/100-cotton/ When the babies get a bit bigger this is what my grandkids and most of their friends sleep in https://www.magicsleepsuit.com/

I have bought fantastic baby quilts from folks on Etsy. They are beautiful and unique and everyone has always loved them.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I actually saw one that was called a stroller blanket. Maybe I will go with that. I’ve got til September to decide.
Make sure to calculate shipping time if you want your gift before or when baby arrives. There are a lot of attractive options! In HI, it’s pretty warm, so mostly I’ve seen the light swaddle blankets and little privacy aprons for mom’s to nurse discretely.
For the practical point of view, my daughter has used these on her twins when they were infants.

Now they are toddlers, I’ve gotten these for them for fall and winter.
Woohoo! Just found out that S1 and DIL are expecting. I’m so excited for them and for us.
YAYAYAYAY!! WHen is this next wave of little persons due?? Ours is September.
Early November.
Mid November for us!
Congratulations, @snowball! I hope time flies by. That first ultrasound showing that everything is in just the right place does make the parents (and grandparents) feel better.
Congratulations, @SplashMom! I like Mimsy.
Congratulations, @2VU0609! Great news! My sister and her granddaughter FaceTime often.
Congratulations, @shellfell! Your family will have a special Thanksgiving this year.
We didn’t find out about the sex of our kids, but D and SIL did and hosted a dinner for both sets of grandparents to share the news the day they found out. Fun!
I was able to babysit our GS two times this week. I am so in love with this little guy. He just looks up at me as if he knows me, knows my voice, and knows how much I love him.
I am nowhere near being a grandmother but these “Bow Swaddles” from Beaufort Bonnet just make me smile:
