If my memory serves me correct, people on the waitlist from the northeast are usually last to hear news about the waitlist (they do it by region and start with Cali). So if you are northeast like I am, we probably will have to wait until the end of next week/beginning of the week after to hear any news.

@cicerp, Arghh!!!

@poooh
Nope, FL. I’m starting to think that’s the case across the board because of us eager waitlisters lol.

@guitar01
yeah i had a feeling that they just said that they were “out of office” to avoid the waitlistees asking thousands of questions lol
i mean since they started deliberations they should be IN the office. for like 24/7.

well, just hoping for the best!

If I’m not mistaken, last year, the first waitlist acceptances came beginning May 15th, which was a Friday. The equivalent for this year, holding that last year’s standard applies, would be tomorrow… Scary, yes. Does that seem accurate or no?

Some people claimed to get them even earlier in years past. Don’t expect this to be the case this year. Since yield relative to the accepted number of students is pretty good, they don’t need to take as many people off the waitlist, so they are probably not in as much of a hurry to fill the remainder of their class.

I emailed my regional officer with a letter attachment and she wrote back with a day.

I want next week to come really badly, but at the same time I think I’m too scared for it to come. It’s like April 1 all over again, except we don’t get told about rejection, but instead must resign ourselves to wait even longer.

I’d like a definite yes or no before I graduate.

I’m with you there, cicero. In addition to the general susepnse, I feel awkward telling people at school that I’m going to Penn, but in the back of my mind I always think 10% Harvard.

I just tell people I am going to Wash U. I don’t even bother with the, “I’m on Harvard’s waitlist,” anymore. I dismiss it as a negligible chance so not worth mentioning.

@gunther: I’m like you and I don’t mention the waitlist to anyone because I feel I don’t have a true shot, but it’s that cognitive dissonance that I can’t get to go away, because hope for Harvard will remain for these next few weeks until it’s all over.

For me it is disappointing to know that my spot was literally stolen at both MIT and Harvard by someone at my school…who didn’t accept any offers at top schools anyways so that was a waste.

How do you know that? That’s how I feel about Princeton.

It’s extremely blatantly obvious…I don’t want to go through the whole song and dance on here publicly but it is so obvious that it isn’t even funny.

Two kids got accepted to H at our public school, and for the first time in years, BOTH accepted. In the past, kids have opted for better fin aid at other schools, but this year, H has been generous with fin aid. Which is a great thing, so I’m not complaining. The two kids accepted totally deserved it.

Harvard was very generous with Financial Aid this year. I wonder if the tuition they receive pays for the financial aid they give out. Hmmm.

-Optimism!

So northeast is close to last to be informed. Right?

Harvard’s finaid is awesome, there’s no doubt about that. The only person at my school who was accepted matriculated, 3 were waitlisted, 2 accepted the waitlist, and 7 were rejected.

I snagged it! Hurray! The Thousandth post! Hurrah! I would like to thank everyone who made this moment possible… Bow… Bow… Its been a pleasure…
