The Harvard Waitlist Waiting Room 2014 Thread

Funny she has never dropped in here!

Hi guys. I’ve been looking at this thread for a while, lots of useful info, so thanks. My son is waitlisted, will be going to Notre Dame otherwise. Good luck to you all.

I swear ■■■■■■ are such strange people.

Just spoke to admissions. They are shooting for doing everything tomorrow. It seems they have a three pronged approach of contact. Email, phone, and snail mail. Snail mail will be going out tomorrow as well as emails apparently. Phone calls seemed to be up in the air as to when they’re doing those, if they’re calling people (although they always do). The admissions person also said a relatively small number will be in secondary waves, as these are only to fill up the spots for those who decline the original waitlist offers. So I don’t know where the private school information is coming from.

@Gunther. Thanks for Calling. And Sharing the information. VassarMom seemed Legit to me, not sure anymore however, since there is no indication that either Harvard OR Brown has taken anyone off the list YET. (but then again, who knows…maybe they are doing a call here or there to the ones that are definately in…)

Best of luck all. You will hear soon.

I think you guys were going a little overkill with your ■■■■■ detection. It seems to me that Sidewinder and CowboyNY were just two people (well, one person with two accounts) who wanted to raise our spirits a little. If they were trying to make us believe that they got in, they obviously wouldn’t have been so ridiculous about it.

Anyway, those are my two cents.

Sidewinder, if your goal was to make us feel better, thanks for trying. If your goal was to see a few nervous teenagers freak out and think it was up to them to let us know that you didn’t actually get in, you won.

@Imontoya, the problem here is that … we all know the probability of getting called from Harvard (vanishingly small) and the same is most likely true of Brown. Since these two events are somewhat independent, … What is the probability of getting called from BOTH … on the SAME day? (astronomical?). Not impossible, but I’m just saying …

Gunther656: Thanks for the updated info and for your efforts. Although it appears the adcom isn’t sure which day they will be making calls - tomorrow or Thursday -, it is good to know that it could be either.

So now I am confused. Should I go insane from anxiety tomorrow or Thursday? You would think Harvard would be a little more organized. I mean, I realize that waitlists probably aren’t a big priority for them, but they have to understand how frustrating this is for us. As a few of you mentioned earlier, even beyond not getting into our first choice in college, it’s difficult to look forward when there is this giant curtain draped over our future.

I know. It really seems that Harvard is working unprofessionally and has a lack of regard for our emotional state of mind. Just try to ignore it, live normally.

Someone should call and discover the time :)

Harvard Admissions Office number copied off admissions website

Phone:
617-495-1551. Give us a call! There will be someone you can speak with from 9am-5pm EST Monday-Friday.

I really don’t think Harvard knows when they’re sending them off. I called last week, and was told that the date was this Tuesday, the 18th. However, it seems like others were told this Wednesday or Thursday. They may just be deliberating, so they keep pushing it back. Just remember, it’s a second chance, and no one should be complaining. Just be calm, and let it ride. Although, I understand the stress…

My son just got a call from his admissions officer. He was “Z-listed” and was offered a position matriculating September 2011.

He is thrilled as he was planning a gap year and would not have wanted to give it up.

He attends school in the UK and the call went directly to him at about 2 PM EST.

Good luck to everyone!

It is a pleasure getting to ‘know’ you. You are a wonderfully supportive group of individuals and will have successful careers anywhere you go.

That’s awesome that they started calling internationals. Are you an alum? I guess they’re Z-listing people other than legacies.

Well, dang it. Congratulations. If anyone wants to call and confirm that everything went out today, that would be great. I don’t feel like it, and the international rate I get living in Germany can be killer.

Okay, now that I’ve googled Z-listed, I understand. My hope has been slightly restored. Once again, congrats to your son.

Or does the fact that someone has been z-listed mean that normal waitlisted accpeting has been done?

I confess I’ve been calling people at crazy hours and telling them they got into Harvard (I guess I should feel bad about that)

I’m pretty sure that regular waitlisting has yet to be done. We have no confirmation of any waitlistees getting off yet. Why speculate?
