Sure. Phone them AND e-mail them.

sent out my follow up letter today, hope its not too late

I haven't even sent it in yet (waiting for third quarter grades).

when will they tell you their final decision? I mean, when does Harvard say whether you are taken off the waitlist and admitted or rejected?

thats what sucks about the waitlist...you'll never know...muahahahaha

unless you are admitted, which will most likely be sometime in early-mid May...

our chances are slim indeed =/

The first phase runs pretty much through the middle of June. By then the musical chairs game - where schools "steal" admits from each other by filling holes, causing the second school to go to ITS waitlist, etc etc - has died down.

There can sometimes be a VERY few slots filled over the summer, as the odd admit may withdraw for health reasons, etc., but by the middle of June, if you haven't been admitted, they'll probable advise you it ain't gonna happen.

"causing the second school to go to ITS waitlist"

of course that may not happen if they have more than an expected number of people enroll

I wish to offer sympathy to all those on the waitlist. I have the privelige of having just handed in my matriculation check in to duke. It must suck having yet another waiting period

hey, you get an ipod, don't you?

Duke is bribing students with iPods?

I'm kidding.

Byerly, you may hear as early as late May, correct? Or is mid June definate?

This is somewhat of a rolling process, and people are admitted - if they are admitted - one-by-one and not part of a group.

So just as soon as the responses come in around May 1, they sit down to tally up and see where they are, and if the actual yield is below that projected, then they will start filling vacancies.

I'd say it is almost certain there WILL be vacancies, because they were very conservative (or is it liberal?) in projecting a 79% yield rate - higher than last year's - so as not to over-enroll.

Oh! I was assuming they counted all the vacancies, admitted a group, etc, until there were no more vacancies.

Thanks again.

Just sent in my letter...nothing else I can really do...

And so the wait begins...

So did anyone get a waitlist confirmation card after sending in the reply card?

Nope... I did not.

Are we supposed to?

I hope not!

I dont know about Harvard, but I was waitlisted at Yale and spoke to an admissions officer. 1000 people last year were waitlisted and 8 were taken off the waitlist and offered admission. I got into my preference though: Princeton!

Good luck for everyone on the waitlist! My sister is a freshman at Harvard and she seems to be happy! Hope you get in....

Those are some sick chances at admission for Yale.

byerly, that is incorrect

let's use last year as an example

670 admitted EA
249 deferred/accepted
1,031 admitted RD

1,950 total admits

670+249 / 1,950 = 47%

much less than 70%
