The "Have you taken this GE thread?"

Since I need some input (wooo 4th year GEs), this thread could work for most (remember that there's an Easy GE List, search the site!).

DESMA 10 or ARCH&UD 30 anyone?

Desma10 is ridiculously easy. Boring, but easy. Its once a week every friday morning, and there are 3 pop quizzes, and essay i bet no one reads and a group project (design a time campsule!)

Anyone taken Japan50?

Sociology 1 anyone? Heard it’s easy but also that there are like 5 mini papers…

@hewhothrows I’m interested in design and doing design work, the class is more of an overview yeah?

Just to help people who are looking, I’m an engineer (5GEs, one covered by major req.)

The ones I’ve taken are:

LS 2
History 2C (Easy, pretty boring subject to me, was not super interested in the topic and fell asleep a LOT)
Geography 6 (Best of the bunch)

I haven’t taken very many yet but I’ll add on what I have taken.

Stats 13 w/ Dinov: his reviews on Bruinwalk are not good. he doesn’t teach very well, but this class is definitely an easy A especially if you’ve taken some form of stats before. his tests are something like 9 questions and you get points for the 7 questions you scored the most points in. you have to type your homework.

Global Environment Cluster: I only took the first quarter but it was pretty easy. the TA’s basically tell you everything that will be on exams. it’s not necessary to read the text book

Geog 1 w/ Trimble: soo boring but easy A. I had a two hour TA section right before a three hour lecture once a week so it kind of dragged. its not necessary to read the text book

Russian 25: I took this class because I wanted to read the books. I enjoyed it and if you are good at analyzing literature you’ll be a-ok. 1800+ pages of reading though. just 1 3-page creative writing assignment (since it was not the writing II version of the class) I think it’s possible to get through this class without reading, but if you’re going to do that you shouldn’t take this class. I thought the lectures were great.

Deuces… to put it as politely as I can, you will learn nothing in that class

Eng 3 (i know this isn’t ge) anyone?

eng comp 3 like eng 100w: your experience would completely depend on the instructor

steinberg is awesome if you can get him

Ling 1 with Rett anyone?

Has anyone taken Honors Collegium 21W? It’s the one called “The Rise and Fall of Modernism” with Professor Creese.

I haven’t taken Ling 1 with Rett, but I just enrolled in it. :)

HC21 reminded me of AP English. you read a novel (or plays toward the end of the quarter), discuss in class, then write an essay. there was i think 3 essays and then 1 more essay that you turn in the week before finals. no actual exams, just a bunch of essays. topics were pretty interesting, professor seemed excited about class. it was a nice, small, seminar type of class. i think he drops the lowest essay grade of your initial 3, and also allowed you to revise one essay for a higher grade (all except the final essay of course, which is also weighted more)

Had English 3 with Creese. The theme of the class was screwball comedy - watched old films (Cary Grant, etc.) some pretty classic/famous. Pretty fun to work through, he has decent reviews on bruinwalk, got an A- (This was Fall '06).

DesMa 10: It’s easy to get a B+, A-, or A in the class. But, determining which isn’t that easy because there are so few assignments and I don’t even know how they grade it… It’s based on your TA, imo. It’s really easy to fall asleep in the class.
History 2C: Easy class, but again it depends on your TA. I really liked this class, and Teo is really engaging.

History 13C
Pol Sci 20

Adding to the (easy) DMA10 discussion:
Course material: You can probably Stumbleupon art/design and learn more in less time. Stuff like Japanese toys, IKEA, random European designs and some history/classics behind it, if I remember correctly.
Midterms: TAs are highest authority. Essay. Easy.
Final: Huhtamo and all TAs meet and grade each project as a group.
3 Quizzes: 1,2) were lecture/course reader material. third was pro/con alarm clocks.
in-class project: should be a good grade if you take your time and think as a group.
There are even easier GEs if you want the GPA.

Anybody here take any form of ComLit (2AW-2DW, 4AW-4DW preferably) or any particular WritIIs that stood out to you?

@jolius: easier GEs? please tell

What is a very easy LS with lab ge?

if you’re looking for easy GEs search the easy GE thread, or bump the thread with the above post confidentiality.

@Jolius @transpublic I’m probably going to take Arch & UD 30, for me, it isn’t about an easy grade since I’ll do well regardless. Trying to find really good classes I’m interested in.
