16000 names were released? And what is the significance of these people?

Debatable. Did some research. Scroll back a few pages to find it.

Right. THanks and dont worry, these things are quite unpredictable and you shouldnt worry too much speculating. Applied to any other UCs?

Got into UCLA and UCSD

Hey thats great! Whatcha looking to study?

Primarily comp engg.

Thats great! Well good luck to you and everyone for the Berkeley and CMU decisions! :)

You too. Best of luck. :)

Darn I found a rather disconcerting statistic >.< Only 222 of the 610 admitted last year actually enrolled to Caltech? Why did that happen?!

Not everyone would want to go there. Simple really. For example, I would (perhaps mistakenly) assume that the relatively small class size might not be attractive to some.

Well but isnt Caltech a really good school? Assuming most people who get there wanna do something science or engineering related, isnt it among the best places in the world to pursue the same? Then how is it that only about 35 percent actually decide to attend? Should i worry then? :S

Its highly probable that a lot of these people were accepted at other great universities too. So their call really. Did you get accepted at CalTech?

Yeah I did. I didnt expect to and before that it was pretty much my first choice. Now after reading all this and considering the difficulty of its core programme im beginning to have second thoughts :(

Big congratulations in order mate.
Well, do what I’m doing.
Not worrying about my decisions till I have all of them.
Then I’m sure this thread will come alive with suggestions, counter-suggestions and a general sense of chaos. That should be excellent fun. ;)

second thoughts on attending Caltech … WOW !!

Thanks mate! Yeah i agree i should wait before worrying except Cambridge(whose decision came out in early Jan) is already asking me if Ive made a call >.< I think they assume that ill go there. Cambridge is excellent too though :)

Cambridge sent a rather polite rejection letter to me. After I asked them when they were planning to release decisions. :|

@comscifan: Yeah its not that i think i can get a better place, im not that good. Its just there must be some reason why only a third or so of admits actually enroll right? And also its renowned for being immensely difficult. However, I do think that it could be exciting to study under such a challenging curriculum :)

Matters from person to person. Don’t think about it right now. Just my advice. :)

@Technut: Yeah I was expecting the same actually, the interviewer made me look like such a ■■■■■■ >.<
