The "Humanities or Science/Maths" people; Right/Left Brained

My god, I have yet to not run into a person who says "Oh, I have loved math since i was 5 yrs old zomg!!! I study calculus now", or "I'm a natural poet; Shakespeare sux IMO".

It seems that, either way, everyone is some sort of "humanities-oriented" or "maths/sciences-oriented" either by birth or when they were young. It's not to say that you're limited to a particular area, but like 99% of the people fall majorly into one of the two categories...

I'm probably the only one that's perfectly apathetic to both areas, and as far as I know, am approximately equal between the two areas in aptitude, interest, skill...everything.

Of course, many (esp. on this site) are good at the other side to a certain level, but still most are wayyy better in one area than the other in relative context.

Anyone else like me? I have yet to find one... just makes me wonder if this is the way your brain works...or because I have yet to take many courses.

So the next part in combination to this, somewhat related, is the right/left brain kinda thing...where left brain dominant is more analytical-ish, right brain more philosophical (very limited definition, a google search will just do). Which side is more dominant for you?

A simple google search leads to a couple tests, but for those lazy I just put sample test links(there's always better ones) :

I'm, as I figured, relatively even...between right-left brained.

A pretty long post. Good day. Oh and yes, these links/topic are old. No need to say it.

that was interesting. 55% left, 45% right. it annoyed me how the answer choices didn't fit the questions though haha

I'm somewhat the same. I think of myself as a balance of both. I'm definitely not hugely oriented towards one or the other - I enjoy both and I'd say I'm decent at them.

Took the first link test and got 58% left vs 42% right.

That dancer is most definitely turning clockwise; I can't even begin to see how it would be turning counter-clockwise.

The other links all pointed to me definitely being right-brained, which I've always known. I am not left-brained at all, not in the slightest.

What about that last link? the dancer one? Counterclockwise or Clockwise? Make sure to at least try to stay for a minute or something, see if you can make it change or something...haha.

EDIT: It's usually counterclockwise, but I can make it clockwise with concentration.

I've always considered myself to be about equal left/right brained, perhaps slightly more left. The spinning woman thing has always baffled me, but I can change directions pretty easily. I see it clockwise first. Odd.

54% left, 46% right

I'm 54% left-brained and 46% right-brained too. It doesn't surprise me though... I love writing and being creative and have even considered becoming a writer or something in that line of work. But I'm also highly critical and I'm good in both sciences and humanities.

You're not the only one :)

I expected this type of response, so I explicitly said that "most of you are good in both areas." I'd expect a math/science kid on here to be pro at english, and the vice versa as well, but what I was really getting at was both of just about the equal aptitude, passion, skill, and virtually everything... while the science kid may get a 800 on the verbal/writing SAT, no doubt that his passion in science is wayy greater and much more intellectually refined. Conversely, one interested in politics/linguistics may be real good at math but the former will exceed.

Skill level is irrelevant in this case; whether you get all F's or all A's or you suck or you're good isn't the matter here; it's whether either area is just about equal in terms of virtually every criteria, which I find really rare...

I'm 52% right brained and 48% left, and I can switch the dancer pretty easily, although I see anti-clockwise first. I love both math/science and humanities and am good at all, so that often causes problems for my schedule :(

I've stared at it for five minutes and can't see how she's not spinning clockwise (viewing from top-down). Then again, I can't do those magic eye things, so I'm a poor test subject.

Also, is it just me, or are there some pretty big nipples going on there?

67% left brain, 33% right brain. Not surpised at all: I'm a very analytical, meticulous person who sucks at art, music, and dance. Interestingly, I can ONLY see the dancer moving clockwise (right-brain characteristic).

First Link: Wow, it says I'm 50% left, 51% right. lol, how does that work. I always thought I was left-brained...and I still do. Passion and interest wise...I think I'm about the same for both...skill wise I still think I'm better in math than in English.

Last Link: Saw it going counterclockwise at first...then concentrated a little and saw it going clockwise. That's a really cool trick.

Edit: to flip the spinning person...look at the shadow of the foot at the bottom...I find it easy to go from counterclockwise to clockwise and back again.

Dancer clockwise.. therefore right brained? WRONG WRONG WRONG

The first one said I was 56% right and 44% left.

I'm 63% nonverbal... Figures.. I was always that kid in English class that would try to use his hands to explain what he was thinking out of frustration. I'm a good actor/liar too! And oddly enough, I'm considering either linguistics or international relations (politics) as a major (as Invoyable said). But, I was never a fan of reading or writing. :| I was math kid!

And I see the dancer dancing clock-wise. Only after hannah2010's tip did I get her to change, but then I couldn't change her back. When I refreshed, she was clock-wise again.

haha according to the first link I'm 50% left, 51% right

Focus really closely on the dancer's foot, and just concentrate for a few seconds. Before you even realize it, you'll see it going the other way.

Strangely enough, I got 53% right-brained and 47% left-brained. I thought I'd err more on the scientific side, but it's pretty close either way.

I excel at both and am usually divided right down the middle on those right/left brain tests. I am interested both, with a strong interest in philosophy (commonly assigned to the humanities) and in science/math (although technically they're both epistemologies [empiricism and rationalism] and so fit under the philosophy category).

It's an odd distinction that you make, though. Science is drastically different in its approaches from math, and I find it peculiar that you lop them together. "Humanities" seems like a mishmash of various branches that have few common strings, and so nearly everything falls under its umbrella. I don't think the dichotomy is coherent, but whatever.

Oh, and I can switch the dancer at will :)

54% left, 46% right, according to the first link.

Makes sense. I love math and science, but I like writing and I read all the time.

First link: 61 Left Brain, 39 Right Brain...not surprising!

44% left, 56% right. I honestly thought I'd be a bit more right-brained.
Incidentally, it says my least-defining characteristic is logic. Oh, well.

With the dancer test, I tried it out with my dad, and it was so freaky how it changed at different times for both of us. He wouldn't believe it. He thought it was a preset animation change. It rarely changes for me, though.

Wow. The second one with hemisphere dominance gives me 100% left-brained. Yeah....
