The Indian Thread #19

I’m so glad your Wellesley interview went well! What sort of things did you talk about? I think Wellesley is slowly turning out to be my first choice.
Pixie, you’ll never know till Dec 15th. Anything’s possible, aight? Don’t count yourself out yet.

Like I said, Yale comes out Dec 15th.

ani, I am not surprised by the timing of GaTech decision. Several state universities including UT Austin operate like that. If you have the score then you get in. It is highly predictable.

aniruddhc: Did you ED at CMU SCS? Nov. 15 or Dec. 15 ?

GT doesn’t have rolling admissions actually. This was their super-early early notification program… So yeah…

Yeah I might do ED2 at CMU but then the deadline is Dec1 not Dec 15!

Arunemo, we talked a lot. She started off by asking about my school, academics and EC’s, my interest in Wellesley, what I see myself doing there and we talked at length about those. Then it was me asking her stuff and her tale of her experience at Wellesley was really interesting. At the end it was both of us talking alternately. She was a very open person so talking to her was a pleasure and we hit it off immediately! She gave me some advice on college apps and told me to contact her whenever I want to know some more about Wellesley.
Interestingly, she had intended to major in chemistry too but ended up changing her mind in her 3rd yr and majored in Religion and Economics instead!
I’m glad to hear it’s becoming your first choice! One cannot go wrong with the place! :)

The only thing she didn’t seem happy about was my retaking my SAT Reasoning which she said was a perfectly good score. And when I told her I retook my 750 in chem, she wasn’t looking too happy at all! I hope I didn’t come across as a major nerd at that time. I managed to convince her that it’s for my own self rather than for any college. Come on. I wasn’t able to finish the paper! Of course I’ll take it again!

Oh, and about Yale, I don’t know how you wrote that without laughing your head off, lol. One can never know, but it is very easy to make an estimate. Rhetoric cannot hide the blatant reality. ;)

^Yup, my Pton counselor went to Wellesley and then did her Master’s from Stanford. :)

That’s excellent to hear. I can’t believe it’s turning out to be my first choice, I’ve come a long way from rejecting single sex schools altogether haha. But Wellesley is amazing. If I got in I’d be so psyched to go there.
Your SAT score is perfect for Wellesley, so you really don’t have to worry about that
I had a question about supplements-the ones that ask you about why you chose their college (e.g. Wellesley), did you write a pretty straightforward essay or did you try to make it creative?

Well, I tried a little creativity in a very few of them, but they don’t really give much space, so to be writing love letters for all would be foolishness. After all, in the end it’s important to convery why you want to attend and not to show off your writing skills for which we have enough space in the rest of the applications.(Think the torturous essays they load us with).
What did you do?

Oh thank god, I was drafting a straightforward essay and I was just wondering what everyone else did  phew. I think my creative juices have been milked dry by now.

The majority puts straightforward essays and the majority of the student population in America does go to college.
I think you’re safe Arun. ;)

Very encouraging  Grazie. I think I’m gonna go sleep for a bit. So tired.

Sei il benvenuto :)

Pixie, I thought you took the SAT reasoning just once?

Yes, I took it for the first time in Oct. Why?

I loathe SAT prep. I actually got a headache yesterday from doing cr passages.

I dislike SAT prep(read practice tests) since whenever I do them I think “Wth am I doing? Does any decent 12th grader spend their time correcting Grammar or doing 10th standard math or reading passages that are of no use to them so close to the boards? Have I absolutely lost my mind?”
It’s hard to concentrate then, but I manage some way or the other. You just need to keep your target in mind. But yes, I’m spending very little time on sat atm since it’s only a problem of keeping silly errors in check.

I actually loved studying for the SAT II lit test. The passages and poems were so interesting!

^You did so well. I need to get an 800 on Lit.

Thanks! I wanted an 800 too. Didn’t work out. :/
