The Indian Thread #19

Really? I might just apply to Midd coz of that. It’s an amazing school. Just a bit too cold. But muggle quidd and short supp clinches the deal for me. What’s one more school transcript? Only 10 signatures from my princy, vice princy each and 10 stamps from princy, vice princy each and 6 school stamps.

I’ve thought up an idea. I’m going to get one transcript signed and stamped and I’ll get colour photocopies made. What say aniruddh, rsaksena, istmylife, everybody? My school cribs a lot about extra work.

Anyone from here applying to Rice or UT Austin this year?
I am visiting UChicago again this coming Wednesday. I really liked their essay prompts.

^I’ve applied to UT Austin for Spring 2011. I already have an offer from Penn State, though.

I’m probably doing U Chic. I just want to get out of doing the TOEFL requirement. What a pain to do it.
I’m looking at Rice very seriously too.(Both suggestions made by you, thanks!) The weather is amazing!
USC is another school I’ve discovered with grrrreat weather.

What’s so great about the gate at U Chic anyway? Every college has a gate innit?

Thomaskurian89- Congo on your acceptance!

Pixi-Yep, I was worried about the cold too, but I’ll live. It scored above Williams for 3 main reasons-1) Their language programs abroad are awesome. 2) They have much more diversity in their population and a slightly better social life. At least in terms of the town it’s in. 3) Muggle Quidditch (jokes. Their English department is a-freaking-mazing. But Muggle Quidditch counts too). So even if its 3 USNWR rankings below Williams, I found it a much much better fit for me. My opinion duh, but hey I think you should send an application too. What’s the harm? :)

Yeah! We could be in the same school! Imagine :)

That would literally blow my mind
I swear the possibility of actually knowing someone at a college before going is incredible…I was talking to a friend I haven’t seen since 5th grade and who I met on facebook and we have some colleges on our lists that are exactly the same and we were just imagining what it would be like to be in the same Uni together…immense :D

^Yeah, it sure would be comforting to know someone at the school you are applying to.
Unless it’s the school your arch nemesis also goes to. Then the reaction wouldn’t be as pleasant. ;)

pixie, there is nothing special about the gate at UChicago.

I hear that USC is good for engineering and USC faculty is top notch. USC is a good school despite the fact that it is not very difficult to get admission there. I am told that they give good FA for people with good scores. LA weather is the best.

I’m only applying to the East and one school in the Midwest. The West Coast is toooo far away :/

Yeah, it’s actually too far from family in the states for me too, but you’re talking to the girl who’ll be accepting/rejecting colleges(IF I have the luxury to do so) after getting acceptances on the basis of their weather. ;)

Tippu- I think they’re pretty good for the sciences overall, whatcha thinky?

Well Miami’s in the East and it has GREAT weather ;)

@rsaxena: Yeah, To an extent.
But why not try if I can go for something much better.

MIT aspirants … Requested an interview yet?

I don’t know why you all think west coast is too far away. Difference is not that significant those coming from India. Is it?

pixie, I am not sure about USC for science. OTOH, physics @ UC Santa Barbara is very good.

One school I never hear people talking about here on Indian threads is Whitman College. It is a very good LAC with good science departments.

I had my MIT interview on Nov. 7th.

Tippu, we all(I think all) do have family in the states with whom we would prefer to spend hols. And being so far away wouldn’t really complement the cause would it? But I’m def applying to some warm places! WUStL is good too!

fabragas- Oh, how did it go? Were there any questions you found difficult to answer?

The interview went well.

There were not many difficult questions. But we did chat about general problems in India - pollution, education etc - and he asked me to propose solutions for them. I did not give good answers immediately. But, I came up with excellent answers eventually, I believe.

Besides, my interviewer is on the executive board of the charitable Door Step School. I have been teaching for the past few months in one of the branches of the DSS; situated in a filthy (there is no other word for it) slum. I guess I got lucky…usually does not happen.

Good for you! That is lucky indeed!

Yes interviewers seem to be asking a lot of general knowledge related questions. My Wes interview was more about India India and Indian affairs(political, environmental, developmental, you name it) and less about me me and myself. Had me quite in a tizzy later.

Which state are you from fabregas?

Oh, ok. I understand. Yes, WUStL is good and the campus looked beautiful when we drove through the campus a few years ago while we were visiting a relative in St. Louis. I heard it is a good place to do premed.

fabregas04, it is good that your MIT interview went well.
