The Indian Thread #19

I am a Keralite in Pune.

I think I posted this before, or am I imagining things?

Oh, yeah you did. My bad, I forgot. I’ve been corresponding with a lot of Indians on CC atm and I’ve asked them the same thing too.

Deja vu…

@pixie - U of Chic does not require TOEFL from students who have studied for more than 3 years in an English medium school in a country where English is one of the official languages. So you don’t need to give TOEFL…I definitely am not…waste of money…

@Ani - Well put.

Is there any chance you listen to Iron Maiden???

Tippu-It does make a difference when you think about where my fam is. My parents are gonna be in Brussels for a year after I graduate, and it’s a 7 hour flight from Brussels to JFK. After Brussels they’ll probs get posted somewhere in Africa or perhaps Central Europe, both of which are closer to the East. New York is closer to Delhi too, at least compared to the West Coast which adds around 5 more hours of flying. 5 hours is a huge amount of time for someone who has no immediate family in the States. So yea, I ruled out the West Coast in the beginning itself so I never considered UCBerkeley, Stanford, or Caltech (not that I would’ve gotten in anyway), even if it meant sacrificing good weather. Oh well.

Fabregas-I listen to Iron Maiden from time to time :stuck_out_tongue: But that’s a discussion for TiT 18.

Ooh interviewers asked you about India and things? I wonder what they’ll ask me :S

While sending the official school stuff, are you guys listing your own name as the sender or your principal’s and the school address?

Yes, it is quite a good LAC. They came down to Delhi a few weeks ago along with Middlebury and Bryn Mawr.
This forum does seem to be filled to the brim with people only looking at the most commonly recognised schools innit?
Tsk Tsk.

Well, I won’t mind talking about Ithaca and Northeastern or Colgate and Wellesley. They’re some of the schools I’m applying to.

I absolutely LOVE Wellesley. As you very well know.
It is actually the one girl’s school I would choose over many co-ed schools on my list. It’s just perfect!
You aren’t in the brim.

Aren’t in the brim?
I know, Wellesley is incredible! They have an excellent science program btw-for your benefit :)

The grads go on to do ‘great big things’ later in life. And their grad school admit rate is cool.

I mean I wasn’t really including you in the generalisation.

any idea people when are the november sat scores being declared?

November 23rd.

Hello everyone …

there sure are plenty of indians out here … pretty encouraging…
alright, i’ll just go to my question : how did you all fill out the “List Courses Taken” part of the academics section in the CommonApp ? (I know this has been asked before by a certain “debarghya”, but he unfortunately didn’t get very convincing replies) …

Obviously, with most of us following the CBSE syllabus, the natural thing would be to merely enter “CBSE Physics” or “CBSE Chemistry” for all three periods (First, Second and Third Semester/Trimester) … it’s just that I’d like to get a confirmation from those who’ve already done this bit.

And another thing : how many here are actually into IIT-JEE coaching ? you know, integrated school programs and things like that ? I was just wondering if it would be alright to show that I’ve challenged myself by opting for a more, er… challenging … course content in 12th… (okay i know it’s not a different syllabus like IB or AP or anything)

right…that’s all for now…
thanks…

oye, CBSE dosen’t have a trimester system … i mean … there’s just half yearly and final na… so …

^We had trimester system…until this year when my princy had this bizarre idea of making it 1st term , mock pre board, pre board.

I just had half yearly and the boards

Very interesting to note that even this time the question has not gotten any solid replies…

:/

If you haven’t forgotten, we are high school students as well.
