Funny, we did Strauss in Philosophy and any Indian connection never popped up. I’ll get back to you on that.
I’m not really sure about the 7 generations thing. I’ve only heard about being bound together for 7 rebirths. I can’t comment much on this though, because they’re North Indian traditions and I’m a bit more familiar with South Indian ones.

South Indian traditions are “reverse” of North Indian traditions! I know both sides of the story.

For example in South India, the ring is supposed to be worn on the right ring finger! :P

Huh really? That’s strange coz I’ve never heard of it :s My parents certainly don’t.
Well I do know Keralite weddings are very short. For us the most important bit of jewelry is the necklace the groom ties around the bride’s neck, like the mangalsutra.
Ok wow we’ve digressed like crazy :S How did the subject tests go for whoever took them today?

So … Penn State has multiple campuses. Any suggestion/info on what should my #2 or #3 campus choice should be?
(University Park #1 obvio)

Engg. Major …

ani, please educate me on this when you have some time on TiT#18 v2

I suppose some are slightly different, but that’s true even north and north east. For ex due to climate difference we have lohri while south has pongal and east has bihu for harvesting. Similarly Diwali is celebrated during the day in the south because according to the myth Lord Ram entered south first(in the morning) and north in the night after all that travelling. (;)) But essentially traditions are all the same ani?

My family could be taken half south indian coz my grandfather was largely posted in the south when in Air Force and the lifestyle/traditions rubbed off. We even have uppma/dosa for breakfast alternately.
And all my friends down south do is tell me my nickname means salt in Kannada. Who would have known?

Luceverita, I didn’t get anything on the 7 ages part, but there is this interesting tradition in my grandmother’s side. Apparently when the girl in the family marries, her mother hands down these silver ghungru and this goes on for 7 ages. The girl in the seventh age is then free to do whatever. My grandmother’s are 4th age.
I tried them out once. Too heavy for my comfort!

I had applied to PSU in September but I got lazy to send the documents so I sent them by November 1st week… The admissions officers are saying that I’ll get my acceptance by Jan.

Anyway

Don’t put anything as your second choice etc because if it aint university park its not worth it :)

And Tip, I can’t generalize about South Indians as a whole but my sister is married to an Iyengar (cornellian too) and the traditions were like opposite of ours so we decided to have a south indian wedding since its different and stuff

The wedding was fun, but SO ritualistic! I got fed up! We had to wake up in the morning at 5am and rituals continued till the evening… But I loved all the banana leaf meals… So yummy man… If only they could serve chicken… :P

Umm I like south indian weddings but they’re too religious and stuff… Not as much fun as north indian weddings! :D

Thanks
char

what docs … i though PSU requires only HS transcripts.

by docs, he means HS transcripts.

Nothing tastes good without some salt. :)

Right, we can read whatever language you wrote that in Tippu. Don’t bother with explaining what that means.

EDIT- Oh, I just used some common sense. And google.

google transliterate is a very useful tool.

Why no more frequent posts on TiT. Once, there used to be over a 100 in a single day.

The feeling when you finally click the submit button of the application :)

Partly coz this thread is now restricted for colllege discussions only (rest in cafe). Or maybe due to approaching deadlines and boards

1ooo charachters. Posted twice.

There must be a ‘revaluation’ kind of thing on the SAT too (like in the boards)

There is! You have to pay $50 for it or something.

And what is the need for a re-evaluation of a test which is corrected by a computer? Lmao

^The computer might make mistakes. And the essay can definitely be re-corrected.
