The Indian Thread #20 (a)

Harvard and Stanford (^These dates fosho)

The rest of the ivies…these are the most likely ones being discussed on all the notification-threads I read.

Admit at UIUC! ULTRA HAPPY! Major is CS btw.

Congratulations Pratyush!

Congratulations Pratyush! :D

@pratyush - congrats man! UIUC is very very good for CS! time to party! :D

@HCaufield - didn’t you get into Harvard btw?

Thanks everyone

@iamthebist

No party man, boards just 10 days away.

By the way, MIT’s 14 March, Pi Day.

@iamthebist

:O

I got deferred in the early round.

@Tizil - He meant the timings for Indians

@HCaufield - oh i see! that means you are a strong applicant :smiley:
Mind sharing your stats btw?

@pratyush795 - why would boards matter to you now anyway? ;)

@iamthebist - Can a university decline an admission based on board marks?? For instance if I get around a below average percentage, say 75-80%, can I be straight away be declined?

The Universities expect you to complete your academic program at a “performance comparable to the one presented” in your application. So if you have not Failed or dropped down substantially do not worry. And if there is a big change you might be asked to explain yourself. Worst case scenario, they put people on “academic probation” or give an “academic warning”.

You are going into a system which wants you to succeed and not looking for reasons to reject. So they are willing to be considerate and understanding and give you a chance, if you are a strong applicant.

I don’t think Illinois will rescind your admittance unless you screw up really bad. Like <50.

5 friends into UIUC :D

It’s a shame I didn’t apply. Oh well, I had a choice between applying to UIUC and applying to Georgia Tech. Chose the latter. The results … will be out on the 10th of March :)

Till then, congratulations to everyone who got in and those who are still expecting decisions :)

Congrats to people expecting decisions? lolwut?

@iamthebist

I do mind sharing stats. Dont let numbers and "ec"s affect your pereception of me :P

You know what I meant Bist :p

My D has been accepted in all 6 colleges she applied for-Bio Tech/Bio Chem major;
Rutgers-NBW,Indiana-Bloomington,Wisconsin-Madison,Purdue,University of Georgia & WPI.She is an international from India
WPI with presidential scholarship of $29,000 per annum for 4 years.Sholarship decisions from a UW-Madison is pending.Now has to make decision on where to join though WPI’s scholarship and its programme will be a major factor to decide.She is busy with the boards preparation and probably make up her mind after the Boards are over.
Now I feel that she should have applied to some IVI’s as well .
She has good stats and EC’s.Anyhow happy with the outcome so far.Wish all those awaiting decisions best of luck!!!

I know questions regarding transcripts have been asked before, so please forgive my repeating it yet again. What do colleges mean by “official” transcripts? For some summer programs, we do not have to send official ones since they accept “unofficial” transcripts too. What’s the difference between the two? I get the format of the transcript - must contain all the scores of all exams till date and and a explanation of the grading system of the school. Plus, as said before, there is no SET format. So how does one differentiate between “official” and “unofficial” transcripts?

If you are from India and CBSE or IBDP, the official would be the one issued by the Board or IBO/School with School’s Stamp and Counselor’s signature.

I’m in CBSE. The fix is right now I’m applying for summer programs. Now, for grades 9 and 10 I’ll submit my board issued transcript. For 11th, however, the board does not issue any transcript and all the programs need the scores of all exams till the fall of junior year which includes the half yearly exam as well. For my 11th grade transcript, what would be considered official? the report card?
