The Indian Thread #20 (a)

My top choices are Carnegie Mellon, UIUC, Cornell, Berkeley and maybe UCLA. I already got into one of them so I won’t be too disappointed if I don’t get into any of the others.

Totally off topic… The Best Commencement Speech Ever…

[Conan O’Brien’s 2011 Dartmouth College Commencement Address - YouTube](<a href=“Conan O'Brien's 2011 Dartmouth College Commencement Address | CONAN on TBS - YouTube”>Conan O'Brien's 2011 Dartmouth College Commencement Address | CONAN on TBS - YouTube)

As the days are nearing, I am feeling anxious once again.

With regards to my political ambitions how will a Harvard like college look at this particular EC - One of the NGOs which I was a co-founder and now a very active member has spread across India, it mainly focuses on providing free education, coaching and college admissions help to the poor. This NGO is registered and recognized. One of the key members is going to Aus/NZ to try to build on study abroad programs.

Most of my ECs will prove that I have good leadership skills, organizing skills, administrative skills and love for people. Key skills needed to become a successful politician.

So can my scores somehow be overlooked. My scores are poor but I won’t be failing at Harvard, I can manage a tough courseload. ( I was always the first boy of my school and more or less every Indian School is comparatively difficult. )

@mrinal, Cobalt- same to you :D

And also to everyone else, a very happy holi and may this festive time indicate good times to come in the next few weeks :)

@anirudh- quit worrying!

Mrinal - You need to be a resident of US to qualify for questbridge.

Happy Holi to everyone. Can someone tell me what you say in hindi for this occasion?
@Anirudh, your EC are impressive. Good luck to you

@Samarth, I’d one choose between UVA or UMich. Ranking-wise they’re 13th and 14th, respectively. Personally, I am a bit biased because a friend of mine was just accepted to Ross :P

This might be of help to you:

@AleaJactaEst: I’m not the best Hindi speaker, but I believe you’d say “Holi Mubarak” :D

^^No, I just made my account and completed every thing except the essays. I cant apply for the college match process but I can still apply for the scholarship grant for 4 years.

[Who Should Apply for the College Prep Scholarship?](http://www.questbridge.org/for-students/cps-who-should-apply)

@TheEc: isn’t “mubarak” an urdu word?

Happy Holi everyone! :D

@Samarth, I would totally go for Mich. It’s the most renowned program, plus they held a cool conference in India just a few weeks back. Just shows their engagement at a global level. Plus if you’re looking to return to India and get a job in a company here, its definitely the most prestigious of the three.

@Mrinal Questbridge’s match rate is lower than acceptances at almost every college. Its worth a try, but its one of the longest shots there are.

Both Hindi and Urdu are very similar languages, and both are spoken in India. Holi Mubarak is the closest thing I can think of to “Happy Holi.” To be honest, I just say “happy holi” to everyone. Perhaps someone else can give you a better answer! :)

@tastycles: LOL at your username :P

@Cobalt: Lol yea I guess it is quite impressive that way! :D. Yea climate was horrible! But that was in the 9th grade.

Geography is actually really interesting. Not CBSE geography though :</p>

By the way, an off topic question

How do you get a large investment for an innovative business idea ?

@TheEcnegilletni thanks :slight_smile: :P

@Anirudha Venture capitalists? Those type of firms cater to specific industries etc, it all depends on the idea.

@ tastycles, I am not applying for the match program. I am only applying for the Quest Bridge College Prep Scholarship.
Yeah, I know its a long shot as only few people get the scholarships, but I was free and thought it would be a gud investment of time( the main reason was that it was free) and there is no harm in applying.

@tastycles - Do venture capitalists invest on new car designs ?

@Mrinal, yeah you should definitely apply, I wasn’t discouraging that :stuck_out_tongue: Just wanted to say don’t keep your hopes high because applying is a difficult process.

I don’t know about others, but reminding myself that admissions at top colleges are long shots has helped me over the past few months since I don’t want to build my hopes to high and then not get in.

@Anirudha I’m sure there are some who would, but you’d have to work to find them. A lot of them support sustainable eco-friendly designs for sure.

Bio Diesel cars ??

@Anirudha: In response to your question, watch The Social Network :wink:

@Tastycles: Couldn’t agree more! I’ve had the same mentality throughout this application process, and I think it’s the best mentality to have, especially since the college admissions are so arbitrary. 6 more days till I get a decision… >.<
