The Indian Thread #20

^ You’re an interesting guy. :D

Goluhaque - Apply to MIT. They admit people who are interesting and have their own interests that they pursue in depth rather than just admitting those doing really well in school and get great SATs.

Don’t be pessimistic though on your essays etc.

Ahh your modesty is refreshing goluhaque  Though the admissions officers may not be so forgiving ;)

If you are in doubt if that was sarcasm then it pretty much achieves its purpose of being subtle does it not? Just as you like it ;)

Oh haha yeah but subtle need not mean convoluted ;)

I’d like to clarify to Anshuman that you can’t be considered for the Tata Scholarship at Cornell unless you apply for aid. In fact, the Tata scholarships constitute the only aid Cornell gives Indians. It IS aid, only in the form of a scholarship.

Yeah, I checked with my school counselor & she said the same thing too. Thanks for clarifying though. :)

^^ Same is the case with me . :-(

Hey well atleast you have competent, pushy, and encouraging ppl at CC that will provide you the courage you need. Not to mention that we provide the power for you to restrain yourself from tearing up a printed common app when counselors and teachers don’t have a slight clue of what the app is for and so they go all strict and meticulous on you. :D

Glad that some ppl don’t have to face that daunting prospect of cluelessness ;)

It used to be pretty similar at my school till last year. My seniors were the ones who had to ‘teach’ the basics of foreign application to the school.

So, someone has to pave the way. Why not be it you? :)

Same with me. But I feel that the fact that a lot more number of students (by my school’s standard) will be applying next year from my school than the previous years, would render it less difficult and tedious as it seems.

^^ hahahha…
again , I feel the same !

^ if so, you wouldn’t be asking that question. And if you are the same person, then you are messed up. LOL :D

it’s NBD actually. Year after year, many indian students applying abroad face this situation.

Today is August 1 ;Common Application open??
Has anyone registered ?

@perfectprashant: Yup :slight_smile:

Somehow just logging into the common app website made everything so much more REAL, if you know what I mean…

(And as a first time poster here, hi everyone!)

I just read someone on cc saying that good colleges only accept AP IB and A levels!!!

WTH!!! where does CBSE fare??? :O

prinki94 is right, i can recall reading something like that. But, hey, is it really like that?

I mean, I am CBSE as well, man!! :O

No it’s not. I know people in the ivy’s and other top schools who did cbse (and if I’m not mistaken I think pixie did cbse as well). As long as you picked the most challenging course offered at your school and get good grades, good scores on your SATs etc, and have vibrant extra curricular activities, I think you’d stand as good a chance as anyone else.

Perhaps what that person meant is that only IB/AP is considered for course credit, which is true, but that has nothing to do with getting in…

@contradict- Yeah, that sounds good. Besides, another statement that all colleges keep reiterating and that somewhat consolidates your comment is “You will not be competing against your classmates or against students in other parts of the world. Infact, each student is assessed in the context of his own high school environment” :)
