The only subtopic of chemistry that I manage to bear is physical chemistry. For organic and inorganic, just as d&d said “abundance of hate” seems very appropriate.

Is anyone of you applying to HKU?

I tried to scare my dog with candles (because I don’t burst crackers), who, in return, chased me all over the garden.
sorry, that was not required.

@darkdown and tizil: i agree with both you on almost everything, like that sc/st/obc debate, i said reservation on economic status is fair and i guess thats what tizil is saying too.
and chemistry as a subject is highly polarizing. believe me i have seen twins fight over it so big deal
@veethiv: how good is HKU? does it offer aid? what kind of programs are available? i guess i should check the website.
We kept bombs under the lecture stand of our chem teacher. when they burst he almost jumped to the roof. After that he left the class and called the principal. Nobody was caught

@veethiv: how old is your dog and what breed? what’s his/her name?
I have a 2 year old labrador and she is super adorable

I wouldn’t call it aid but it does offer need based scholarships under the name of Dayaram Scholarships for Indian Students and Top Scorers Scholarships for Indian Students. Pretty competitive, as far as my knowledge goes.

It’s recognized for its HKUST (ST-Science and technology) branch but it offers pretty much every major. There’s a lot of variety to choose from.

My dog is also a lab, two years old!! His name is Alex!

He’s amazingly hyper-active, so @D&D, such behavior is highly expected out of him!
he’s friendly in his approach though :P

@veethiv: thats so nice, and yeah all labs are friendly. BTW i was browsing hku’s website and tuition seems low compared to the us. also its ranked as the best uni in asia so thats something. they have a early admission process too. the deadline is 8th november. i may apply. what about you??

@IRBCobalt-im considering those too but you do know theyre equally selective right? and theyre stingy with aid. Plus the small student population might work out to be a disadvantage in that it might be harder to find your own little niche of likeminded people oh and what were the stats of this neighbor of yours who went to cornell?

@karan11295- sigh. i hope youre right.about the ivys that is.

Veethiv - UH got tier 1 status this year which means USNWR will eventually start ranking it. Once they start ranking, I suspect non-resident fee will start shooting upto 25k or more. The science areas, engineering and business school are quite good.

I am seeing 25k here. Where do you see 32,000?

http://www.uh.edu/financial/undergraduate/tuition-fees/index.php

@shrey: i myself am hoping for the ivys. lets see what happens.
@IRBCobalt I meant to ask one more thing from you. What does IRBCobalt mean??

Oh, man. My first chem SAT test, i get 710. And 680 on the Lit one. Im SO bummed out I think im going to flunk out in the actual test. :’(
Honestly, i don’t remember her stats Shes in her second year now. Her marks were ~94% throughout high school and she was a national/SGFi level swimmer. And no, it wasnt the DPS girl, whoever she was
@Shrey- I know, but Wellesley is a womens coll and supp to be awesome with aid. And all 5 colls i mentioned are need-blind (or so the website says). I’m just hoping to make it with the essays; i don’t know whether my ECs are good enough, though my school grades are. Again, i have a plan B and C in India, because i dont want to be depressed if i dont get in. Getting in with >85% aid is not very realistic, even with the best of resumes.

karan11295- which one’s your dream? mine’s yale :)

@Karan- haha it’s actually part of my gmail id xD I used to love the cobalt shade of blue and stuck it on the email id. (Yes, i was a kid then). I couldnt think of any other random name straight off :P

I got it on the kaplan book
Are you guys getting the feeling we shouldve started prepping weeks, not days, back? (Unless you HAVE been prepping for weeks :P)

Harvard: Its not due to the name or the prestige, although it doesn’t hurt. The main reason is that one of my uncles went there. He used to tell me stories about the college and they were awesome. Also I am a great fan of Erich Segal and ‘The Class’.

@cobalt: that is some loyalty to a name :F

And thank you, ALL of you! I feel a lot better knowing there are a bunch of people in the same situation who i can talk to :)

i have no plan B or C whatsoever… maybe ill apply to some colls close to home later
…The swimmer thing mustve pushed it for her then…
you sure bout wellesley? i should try there then oh and you only mentioned 3 :P

Yeah, it prolly did.
Oh, i mentioned later that ill be applying to non LA colls like Cornell and Columbia too.
Yes, its very selective and very cool (cliched and understated, i know) plus, it has half the number of applicants i guess- no guys na? xD

karan- i just googled ‘the class’ -sounds brilliant… so this makes you a legacy student then?
cobalt- haha i used to have the impression womens colleges would be stuffy and convent-ish but thats silly, i know…
and thats sweet, ur welcome. i think it makes us all feel better :)
