The Indian Thread #21

Crystal31, some great schools for Economics are University of Chicago (Friedman, Hayek, and so much more), UC Berkeley (as mrinal said, haas is the only undergraduate economics school in the states), MIT (Sloan) and London School of Economics (heck, it has economics in it’s name).

If you like rankings a lot: [QS World University Rankings - Topuniversities](http://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/world-university-rankings/2011/subject-rankings/social-sciences/economics) I’d say anything in the top-20 is good, however keep in mind that this particular ranking might have its own constraints, including being limited to only one particular academic field at colleges providing a wealth of other equally strong programs.

Also, if you’re seriously thinking about economics at berkeley, I’d suggest you rather major at bass in business and then later study economics if you want to. You’ll still be taking a lot of economics classes.

@idream17: they are both non-binding so I think I can, but will check up.
@Crystal31: I am not certain yet, it will either be Physics or Biology as I plan to do Medicine later. But I might just end up doing Journalism, it attracts me more.

@ppaayas: You can’t apply to Princeton[/url”>http://www.princeton.edu/admission/applyingforadmission/single-choice-early-actio/early-action-faqs/]Princeton and Yale[/url”>Single Choice Early Action for First-Year Applicants | Yale College Undergraduate Admissions]Yale in the Early Action round. They both have SCEA or Single Choice Early Action for the Early Action round. You can apply to only one college SCEA . However, if admitted, you can still choose not to attend the university.

Thank you Mrinal2207. Appreciated. Then I will apply to Yale, I really want to go to that school.

thanks for the detailed reply @Tizil7 :)

@crystal31.
Im stil so not sure about my major.
I know im definitely going to do something in photography so a good tog program is a must for whichever college I go to. But academically something in physiscs

Totally rambling.
What about you?

Mechanical Eng. all the way ;)

@xNorth22 thats awesome! I am not very sure though but I think it should be Physics or Eco. Not very sure at the moment.

@Mrinal2207 thats nice :)

Sup 17ers? Whatcha doing these days?

@crystal, you’re a 17 or a 18’er?

Im looking at either physics or astronomy. i want to study about space, so looking for astronomy or astrophysics as a final position.

@rew2402 I am a 18’er :slight_smile: what about you?

@crystal : imma 17er.

anvesh95- have you started on your essays? what are planning to write on?

ah cool, rew has CommonApp given the essay topics already?

Crystal, the essay topics of the CommonApplication are the same every year. Also, I think for your batch, CommonApp will be given a visual makeover to look even cooler :)

As far as I know, no. Because the news statement they released seemed to hint that the update would be strictly visual. Also, to change essay topics, they’d have to discuss it with member universities. If that were happening, it would surely be big news. So far, the new ticker seems to be … ticking … without any common app news.

I don’t know why I don’t want to post again :)

oh okay, so Tizil would that also mean a change in essay topics too?

From Maharashtra (HSC), Applying MPH only (in order of preference) for class of 2017 all in RD.

Test: Sat(R)- 2310 Sat(PCM): 800 in all
ACT- 36 TOEFL: 98 (throat infection)
Completed in last year itself, now putting 100% in JEE (need to work harder due to new syllabus)
Seriously confused over Common app essay, would be doing it no sooner than Nov.

Somebody posted that only 3 made it to MIT last year, actually I am aware that atleast 8 got it and 6 are admitted (1 at Stanfy and other will be in IIT-B CS)

Princeton selected 18 for 2016 and 8 for 2015 ( visit princeton club of india)
Harvard has around 30% legacy(hoping that this won’t interfere ~10% intl)

I don’t sit much on fb and cc so I won’t be an active member.

Erm, I know of another person who declined MIT and is going Harvard this fall. So the number is 5 now. Confusion about what exactly?

Hi Tripter, class of 2017? :)
