Why would you use a Graphing calculator?? I don’t think you would need one.
I had a question, should I retake a 750 Chem??

To whomever has taken the Sat and Act, what’s the difference in their preparation, aside from the difference in question format?

graphing calc for math 2 functions. It apparently makes a lot of calculations go faster and easier.

How many subject tests have you given and your scores in those?

Graphing calculators are not strictly required but a question or two may usually turn up in which they are really helpful. I remember some of my friends saying there are always a couple questions in Math II that cannot be solved without using a graphing calc. Though personally, being from CBSE, I prefer doing the questions without a calculator. They aren’t that hard that it can’t be done.

idream: I admit that I did find a couple of questions on the Math II test where the graph calculator could have been helpful, but they were not that hard to do by the basics either.
I gave Maths II, Chem and Physics SAT IIs.

I agree, but better safe then sorry.
So what colleges do you’ll have in mind currently?

^HYPMS+UCB/LA+PennState+UIUC+BU+GTech+ USC
I think this pretty much where every Engineering aspirant applies ;)

Did you count them?

I still haven’t made a final list mainly because I’m so undecided on my major. I want to do architecture but the concept of the traditional 5 year B.Arch scares me a little. I’m not completely ready to commit to arch yet. So I’m planning on majoring in Architectural studies/design/civil engineering and then getting a M.Arch. One of the main reason’s I’m applying to the US is the liberal arts education. The prospect of being able to take classes in my wide areas of interest and then concentrating on some particular field is really appealing.

Hyp+ Stanford, USC, ucb, Chicago, Penn state, nyu ;)

Tizil: I didn’t. That would have taken ages, counting over a hundred pages. I found it [here](http://boardreader.com/thread/The_Indian_Thread_20_a_62g0gXr7y1.html)( The stats changed a bit )

@idream: Do LACs have engineering as a major??

^ Yes they do. Swarthmore’s engineering department is excellent : [Swarthmore College - Department of Engineering Why Swarthmore Engineering?](http://engin.swarthmore.edu/whyswat.php)

Is anyone else trying for JHU?
Strangely, i dont see many people applying at JHU.

My list is strictly top-tier colleges based- HYPC, JHU, UCSD, UCLA, USC. (maybe GTech as a safety).
For me its more or less like: Ivys-Or-UG-from-India thingy :|

Where are yer guys SCEA/ED-ing?
I am doing that at Princeton (or maybe Yale).

Applying for pre-med, rew?

I’m guessing based on the presence of “top-tier colleges” and “UCSD” and the absence of “UCB.”

I strongly suggest doing a chance thread in Sept/Oct time frame (after all your scores are out). I saw some people last year only apply to reach colleges and were left with almost no option or very limited option. Always check your SAT scores/class rank against the admit data of colleges that you apply for.

I was gonna EA at Stanford, but with the probability of acceptance with FA I might not want to waste an EA. Still deciding though :)

Tizil, do tell us how you find UCB. I had visited it last year and the atmosphere is absolutely beautiful :)

Totally having concentration problems for SAT 2’s.
Keep getting distracted by random things on the internet. Anyone else in my boat?

Gaah.

@tizil. Yes. Might be doing pre-med except that i actually wont be doing med after graduation. I have a impression of UCB being a more business/econ-major based school.
Did you visit their campus yet? What are you majoring in?

Ok guys. I need help.
Imma writing my commonapp (or maybe the supplement) essay on my passion for swimming and performing arts and how it changed my perspective of viewing the world as i see it today. I am co-relating both of them.
But… I really want to write about the tshirt-challenge that i have started in india (how it changed me spiritually blah blah) AND my experience on teachin the underpriviledged kids. The problem is that swimming and dramatics are mixing together and so are the challenge and teaching bit, however, i cannot put all 4 into on (even though i realllly want to do so.) thus making it two essays.
But then i’ve also read somewhere that the college adcoms look for depth in ECs and i have “depth” in all 4 of them.

Swimming and Dramatics is my passion and love and would perfectly describe “how its more of me”
At the same till the other essay will express the “depth” in my field of interest ( teaching the underpriviledged and doing good for the society and not bcz of colleges) and the other interestin amazin stuff i did.
COMMENT AND SUGGEST?

I am SCEAing to Stanford. Pretty much my dream school, after UCB.
@rew: UCB is excellent for Business/Econ and Engineering/Sciences. With Hass and College of Engineering and Sciences, Berkeley trumps almost all private colleges. I think Pre-Med at Berkeley is also an excellent field to chose from and since they are just a set of pre requisites, it should be great at UCB. Correct me if I am wrong Tizil :p

PS. Rew, I will reply to your PM in a while.
