^.........ditto.........

I think you guys misunderstood what I was saying. Science students have a way tougher courseload than commerce/arts students. I hope no one wants to dispute this fact. Does that make commerce/arts less important? No. Does that mean those people are not as smart or smarter than science students? No.

About the bias, there is no bias. Science is more difficult and thats that. If you want your report to say that you take the most challenging courses available, then you actually HAVE to take those courses.

I forgot to add. Abhi nailed the whole issue perfectly, comparisons are made between courses in the same subject Honors Physics Vs AP Physics and such. Thats where the rigour of courseload makes any difference.

Precisely, however this entire discussion becomes academic if at some point in your application, the block nature of Indian school streams is mentioned. When that occurs, I'd imagine Adcoms would expect you to have taken the stream most in line with your interests and career plans, not necessarily the "most challenging set of courses".

hehe........it is only the so called ''optional'' subject ur talkin bout.......it might make a difference.......a very little one......but it do make......

hey I still have confusion about the Transcript. Can someone please (i plead) send me a copy or the format off the transcript that needs to be sent.
Use PM.

HELP meee~

Since there seems to be a lot of confusion with regard to the transcript, I thought it would be useful if I describe what my school's transcript is like. (Its been sending students to the US for years and has a standard format that was created out of discussion with colleges in the US.

1st Page: An Explanation of the ISC and ICSE Boards, where they've recognized and a bit about the history of their formation, their status in India etc. and a little about the school: mission, prestige, results, competitiveness etc.

2nd Page: Explanation of choice of subjects available in 9th, what I've chosen, and cumulative averages from all three terms + average.

3rd Page: Explanation of the Board exams (external examiners, marks sent to India, etc.) and only the marks in the Board with my average and rank in school (94.2 btw)

4th Page: Explanation of choice of ISC streams, subjects offered in each stream, what I've chosen, and average of marks in three terms, marks in three terms.

5th Page: List of Syllabi in tiny print for 12th Grade ISC in brief, listing major topics covered.

6th Page: Marks in 1st Term of 12th Grade, explanation of when my boards are going to be.

signed by the Dean of Studies (Guidance Counsellor)

In addition, the Dean in consultation with Senior Supervisor, House Master, Class teacher, Principal and Headmaster writes a reco that either signed by the Principal or the Dean depending upon whether he knows you or not.

Hope that clears things up a bit.
That is a very comprehensive explanation of an ideal international students transcript. My transcript by comparison is smaller as all the explanation about the CBSE system and the school and stuff is done in the school profile. So basically my transcript just has the marks from 9-11(I didn't have 12th quarterly added because they were terrible - so i'll just be sending the mid-year report either after my mid-terms or after my pre-boards.)

Which major do you guys think is harder: Maths, Physics or Comp Sci?

^.......none...!!...hehe.....
Hey,I m in a real trouble now......my school counsellor doesnt know ANYTHING about how fill th form.......dont know wat is GPA,....or anything.........
help me out!!!!!!!!

I am not filling in GPA, I'll just add a note saying that we don't calculate GPA and please refer transcript. What is everyone else doing? Are you guys calculating GPA??

Nope, same as you, giving marks in each subject and average in the board exam year. Schools understand that Internationals don't have a GPA system.
Much of the blanks in my secondary school reports have refer to transcript on them, as the transcript is pretty comprehensive.

TOPIC
Explain in detail why you wish to attend ___ College; please evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your formal education to date.

how do you deal with this... I mean everybody here by now must be knowing that maharashtra state board is one of the worst in the country... especially in Arts.... we have a class of 135 students... and there are two such division... no test in the class... no essay practice... buy a english testbook and read-it will cost only Rs18.... how much should I drag about the weakneses.... I don't see any strenghts... if you think there are any, please do provide me with some inputs for my essay

Well, in case you don't find any strengths, try to make the okay things sound like strengths, or just make up stuff. :)

I'd suggest instead, you speak of strengths in your own character and attitude toward education; the reasons you're aiming for a better educational system. Acknowledge the deficiencies in your educational system, but show how you've moved beyond them

Huzefa:Well, wat I will say is this.........
As only CBSE n ICSE board r mainly recognised,u better follow steps as mentiond by k_twin for ur transcript, this transcript will tell that wat is the real scenario of ur state board level n its deficiences....n then u can probably show that u hav extra things for ur passion,curiosity...BLABLA........the things which r way-way away from ur normal school things..........make use of smallest thing!!!.......

EA, ED results have begun to arrive. Best of luck to all those who applied EA or ED.

best of luck to you for CMU and to Ktwin(s) for Stanford and Harvard.

Which ED/EA results are you referring to? Other than MIT and Columbia, I thought most others, including CMU came out around the 15th or the 16th?

I didn't apply early to CMU :(. Was planning to but things just didn't come through. They always say 15th or 16th but the results generally come out earlier than that.

I am referring to the ones that you can check online not the ones that are sent by mail.
