@abhi: How are essays going? They're killing me!!! :(:(:(

Well,IB is certainly a better option.......
As for selection criteria.......the most WELL-ROUNDED student is selected.....
Which means that the one does not have to be an outstanding performer in every field......altough it is good to outstand in fields......
the strongest applicant is the one who best represent him or her self NOT according to what university wants.....

Lakshya M:Ya the essays are killing me too!! btw,how many r u writting?

lets see ... close to 10. :)

thanks for all your replies.
She definitely wants to go to college in the US.

From what I have heard:
1. IB is better than ISC only because it is recognized in the US, UK and other countries, while ISC is not so well known outside the US.
2. The ISC curriculum seems to be much more rigorous, specifically the Math, which is why I am more inclined to ISC

So I am wondering why some members suggested IB over ISC - would be interested to know your opinion, and especially if anyone took the ISC exam.

Also, currently she is looking at Cathedral school (ISC) and G.D. Somani (IB)

I am still on the p'ton essay:)

I went to the Ambani school for the 11th and 12th, and it was really good when I was there. We had an amazing acceptance rate that year - 2 Stanford, 2 Brown, 3 UPenn, 1 Columbia, 2 Oxford, 1 Cambridge, etc. The batch below us also had really good placements, with one kid going to Yale, and one going to Harvard (among others).

Having said that however, the first two years were the best, since all the teachers had been recruited from the best schools around the world, for two year contracts. Most were unhappy at the end of them, because Nita Ambani didn't give them the freedom they wanted, and they left at the end of 2 years (when I graduated). From what I hear, the standard of teaching has gone down, but the placements should still be pretty good (The Ambani's do have some pull+the school generally attracts kids who are pretty smart).

Cathedral is probably the best ISC option.

I don't know much about GD, because it just opened this year. It's supposed to be the best of the new IB schools that opened up right after ambani (ecole mondiale, etc).

thanks for your detailed reply.
yeah, she couldn't interview at ambani b/c she had her prelims then. Wish she had.

I am partial to cathedral b/c I went to school there. I am also unsure abt gd b/c it is so new.
So, bet cat and gd, which would you recommend for getting into good univs here?
She has already got into gd, and chances are she will get into cathedral as well.

Also, if you are from Bombay, can you advice me regarding private classes/tuitions for preparing for univ admissions here, and when do you suggest starting preparation?
