Eeee tetris, that’s awesome, congrats! :D

UMich has the prettiest name in the world. I mean, it’s a great school, too, but ‘Ann Arbor’ is just a very nice name.

congrats, tetris. I wish I could go UMich.

Oh, and MIT interview tomorrow, guys. Any advice/tips?

@surfup - basic interview skills - look at every interviewer equally (equal eye contact). dont fiddle with your hands, clothes, etc. dont appear surprised by any question, take a pause to answer if you need it. these are all tips we get in engg school for interviews.

and tell me what your app was like, lol. im an mit aspirant too.

thanks for the tips, arronnie. I just finished the interview and it went well. However, at the end, the interviewer told me of the 40 or so applicants she had interviewed from India over the past three years, only 2 made it to MIT. And apparently she has 100 interviews scheduled for this year itself only from Hyderabad(where I live). I was like ***?

Ugh, you’re all on the interview stage already and I haven’t submitted any of my apps yet. Or even a part of them.

That is bad, yes?

Well kinda. But if it’s any solace, I haven’t submitted anything either. Nothing that requires an essay atleast.

Yay! Someone on the same boat. My LORs/test scores will be sent by next week. I’ll only send the apps after that. I hope I don’t submit it too late for an interview (I mean, if I send everything in by December 15th, or a part atleast, I sill can get to do the interview right?

MIT is still less exclusive than IIT. IIT takes one in 70 students…

yo meghna, you dont have to even submit an app to take the interview. just create a myMIT account. so far, I only submitted part 1 of my app, which includes the fee and bio information. I havent even gotten my LORs or anything yet. And the deadline is either December 1st or 10th, so contact your EC ASAP. I hope that clears that up a little. Also, since everyone here is trying for MIT, I guess you are all olympiad winners or something?

i am nothing, just an average student with good marks. a bit into software development, but thats it. what did they ask you in the interview? assuming that they did ask something. MIT is just my dream university. realistic targets for me include UT Austin, Maryland, Wisconsin, CMU, etc. all CS hotshots.

I’ve heard that MIT interviews are pretty standard and more of a formality than anything down here, thanks to the droves of applicants and the limited number of interviewing Indian alumni :-/

@surfup I’m not applying to MIT (non sciencie, remember?) but is the procedure for the other colleges the same? (all the ones I want to apply to are going to be through the common app)

well, the best part about MIT is that it isnt bad at non-science stuff as well, and has connection with ivies and top LACs. I know a few people who went to MIT and studied literature instead of eng. or whatever. I dont know about common app, but I think the only other college to do interviews in India is Yale. But I am not sure…

My MIT interview was actually a little detailed and they asked me my goals and careers and stuff, and at the end, the lady told me that a lot of students from India only want to go to MIT for brand value and she said she didnt get from me(hopefully thats a good thing). Regarding questions, they were very general but I made my answers pretty specific. And a good interview can sometimes turn the tables, even in India. :)
