It's a verbal filler just like "um" and "you know." It's just more common and for some reason most people associate it more closely with inarticulate people.

This is the reason I am taking Public Speaking next year.
I get 1/2 a credit and I get to learn how to speak.
Should be fun

yea, like i dont get the people who say like in their sentences. like its so annoying, why cant they just like speak normally, gosh? i like totally want to punch their face in when they like say like all the time

GOD, I know!

"-Makes up irrational argument of some sort-... ya know?"

I like "uh" or "um" much better than "like."

Guilty!! I also use "like" instead of "said." It's to the point where anyone who says, "Yah, and then she said, 'What? How could you do that?'" sounds weird.

"Yah, and then she was like, "What? How could you do that?" just sounds BETTER.

I am corrupted.

and she was like
and he was like
and i was like
like you know
so anyway
uhhh kinda
umm i dont know
ewwwwwwwww
thats so gross
omgah im being legit
omgah yeah!
im like so serious
ewwwww no
no way!
shutttup really?
no flippin wayy

I AM GUILTY.

I’m glad such a relevant, important thread has been bumped.

It’s the new “ummm” or GASP silence between words.

It’s annoying that I say it too much…like.

People say the word ‘just’ MANY MORE times than they do any other sentence fillers and no once ever seems to notice.

Count the many times you and others say and type ‘just’. You’ll be surprised that you repeat a word so much.

I’ve noticed that I say just and still a lot.

But I don’t care.

Check this youtube video out. Some of you guys might like it.

No one saw this video? :(

Oh, I did.

It’s HILARIOUS.

I’m from the MA so I use “yo” fairly often as well.

I try not to use like that much. I was made aware in 8th grade when our English teacher went on a sort of campaign to stop using the word like.

I probably use ‘uh’ and ‘um’ and variations of that more, though sometimes if someone brings the word ‘like’ to my attention I’ll start using it.

I don’t really say it anymore. However, in English class, we had to do 20 minute seminars, and this one guy said like 219 times. Not kidding.

It’s, like, part of the evolution of the English language!

Or devolution.

Progress is overrated anyway! Look what it did to the Native Americans! Go devolution!
