Bed at 10, sleepy. Woke at 1, briefly. Up at 2:41 ugh. Hi guys. Will probably read for two hours.
Pain and dreams woke me up this time. But the real problem is I can only sleep 5 hours so if I go to bed at 10, I am done at 3.
Melatonin has helped extend it to 6 hours. (I didn’t take it last night)
The real answer is to stay up later, but I get sleepy and if I don’t nod off when I am sleepy, I have a whole other problem: getting to sleep.
I read somewhere that it is what nature intended, that we sleep earlier, get up for a few hours and then sleep again. Maybe in “old age” I am reverting to nature.
3:20 am here…just finished the next few days worth of things I needed to get done for work so I can leave to go help my daughter pack her dorm stuff into her car and drive back.
Was up at 4, 6 and now 6:45 but didn’t get on for screen time so could get back to sleep. Interestingly my apple watch didn’t record the 6 am wake-up but I had looked at my watch to see the time and then went back to sleep. Had a weird dream but fortunately can only remember very little of it.
This thread is giving me anxiety . For those of you who may not have seen my comment in the Mother’s Day thread, I’m in the middle of an online sleep program through the cleveland clinic. It’s been life changing!
One of the big changes it had me make is no clocks or time pieces in the bedroom because it can create more anxiety. Also recommended relaxation exercises for middle of the night waking. Hopping on CC would be considered too stimulating.
Some of the changes were very hard for me (like no reading in bed) but the program is working and I’m consistently sleeping well. I still wake up usually once in the night but can fall right back to sleep instead of tossing and turning or giving up entirely. Can also fall asleep right away now too. Feels like a miracle.
I went back to sleep 6-8 after being up at 1 and 2:40- 6 , bed at 10, so total sleep 6 1/2 not bad. For me the key has been to accept the wake-ups. I used to get very anxious about getting back to sleep but now I kind of go with it, and trust that most nights I will fall back to sleep at some point. If I don’t, I tend to make it up the next night.I get a lot of reading done…
The only nights I get anxious are the nights before I have to drive some distance, and I take either a melatonin or 1/4 Klonopin!
This is great. I should have joined you all at 3 this morning! Getting to sleep initially is rarely a problem. Getting “back” to sleep is often another story. Sorry, but I hope to miss you all tomorrow!
I am just like you. Fall asleep easily almost all of the time, but wake up once or twice, usually to use the little girls room. Thats when I might bring my phone along (or ipad as it has a screen but it obviously bigger and brighter) and peek in here. I can usually easily get back to sleep, but if its in the 5-6 am window, that’s when I have those stress dreams and usually remember them which is no fun, so am ambivalent about going back to sleep then. I have been good about not drinking fluids after a certain time but my bladder still wakes me up ;(
Hello, @conmama . Sorry you are up. Me too. I think it’s because I’m sick—sore throat. But this happens to me occasionally for no reason also. Worst part is I start worrying about stuff I can’t fix (with my kids).
Fell asleep at 7:45 Wed. am, for 1.5 hours. Took a 2 hr nap later in the afternoon.
2:45 am now and still up. Trying to finish making a tallit for our former rabbi to deliver on Sunday. Fortunately (?), it’s supposed to rain this Friday and Saturday, which means we probably won’t go to DE as planned. Gives me more time.
I set my phone for DND and bedtime mode (black & white), set an alarm, and put it out of reach.
Ortho administered a cortisone shot in my non-operative knee today. Hope it works so I can sleep better. Says I need it replaced, too.
Sorry about the knee, @CountingDown . Pain is the worst. I’m not a fan of surgery either.
Your tallit making has reminded me of a good friend who is also crafty, kind and Jewish. I haven’t seen her in awhile—will text her in the morning. Thanks! Are you embroidering?
*crafty as in talented with hand-making all sorts of beautiful things!
