I had the ACT yesterday and I think I got less than what I hoped for. I was hoping to get at least a 32, but I kept coming up short, around the 27-28 mark on the princeton review tests. I'm just wondering what sort of hope I have getting into an Ivy or Stanford. I would also like to state that I am Brazilian, I realize there is a lot of discrepancy about whether or not it qualifies as Hispanic/Latino, but all of the research I have done has made me lean towards the idea that it qualifies with the colleges, regardless of the government not classifying us as Latinos. I have also put Brazilian in for the other box of the Hispanic option in the common app. I will be applying to every Ivy, and Stanford.(I also have safety schools of course.)

So that said, lets say the schools consider me Hispanic, what are my chances with these stats and figures.
3.5 UW gpa
27-30 on the ACT
World History SATII - 800 - 95th percentile.
US HIST SATII - 760 - 92nd percentile.

Absolutely amazing essays
Excellent recommendations
I have also taken four AP's and one Dual Enrollment course.

I'd also like to elaborate on one of my volunteer activities because I feel it is very important. For the past year and a half, two days a week, 2 hours each day, I have personally taught an ESOL class of twenty or more adults. These are immigrants from south-east Asia, some whom have just very, very recently arrived. This is also the topic of my main common app essay.

Thanks for taking the time to look over this.

You’re crazy. Why do you need to go to the Ivies or Stanford so badly? And why do you take advantage of your race so seriously. If you get in congratulations, but your attitude on your post would make me deny you if I was an admissions officer.

So ensuring that I am using every tool in my arsenal to get into my college of choice is crazy? I am not proud about having to rely on affirmative action so heavily, but if it is the determining factor of whether or not I get in, I am not complaining.

Why do I want to go to the Ivies or Stanford so much? Well I want to major in international relations, and I am currently thinking of following up to that with law school. These schools offer me the best education in this field, especially Princeton. I may not come across as the kind of person who has a strong work ethic, but I am, and I feel I would be the happiest at one of these schools.

And seriously, patronizing me because I am trying to ensure that I get my hook?

Super high reach for any Ivy and Stanford. Brazilian=Hispanic as well.

"The U.S. Office of Management and Budget currently defines “Hispanic or Latino” as “a person of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race.”

Though your SAT II’s are great, I dont think your gpa and predicted ACT score is very convincing. And even though you have a absolutely wonderful extra curricular, you still lack in that field. Since you have only been doing it for a year and a half, it probably does not show ‘long term commitment’ as a club started in freshman or sophomore year. You also don’t have that many.

You should definitely apply to ivies/stanford if they are your dream schools, but if I was in your position I would get some other schools that aren’t as selective. There are tons of great ones, I promise.

The volunteering is good, but I would doubt chances because I don’t see much leadership. Most of these applicants have plenty of leadership positions, and I don’t see your profile matching up with theirs. I’m not applying to the ivies for just that reason. You could still try, though!

*also wanted to throw in that wherever you go, you will receive a great education. Princeton isn’t the only place to get a sufficient education. If schools didn’t provide a good education, then they wouldn’t become accredited colleges/universities.

Thanks, I realize other schools have excellent educations, Princeton just stands out because the Woodrow Wilson School of Foreign Service has such an excellent reputation.
