The Journey Class of 2020 ... Denials, redirections, etc.

Where does UMich post rejections? Expecting one, but haven’t received. Are they in a portal?? Thx

Yes, my D found her Michigan rejection in the portal this morning.

D appreciated rejection letters with similar wording last year. Most were like that, but there were a couple that sounded arrogant that were not appreciated. In any case, it’s best just to brush it off, don’t dwell, and forge ahead! These are tough kids, and most get even thicker skin through this process. Admirable!

My D also had Michigan decision (NO) on portal…I think they updated at midnight.

My D is still waiting to hear from most of her schools-what are people’s perceptions about Manhattan School of Musics new BFA MT program??? Anyone have it high (or low) on their list? And why pls???
What is campus like if you visited it?

The campus is urban, near Columbia & Barnard. Someone posted a description of a recent visit, but I’m not sure how to find that thread, since MSM does not yet seem to be one of the schools listed at the top of the MT forum. So far, we know very little about it, except that the new director has a good reputation, so will no doubt be creating a high quality program. I keep hoping they’ll organize some sort of accepted students day in April to answer the many questions people have.

Thank you-is your son already accepted? I thought they were not doing acceptances until April 1?

The new director is very serious about bringing this program up! He was at CCPA for like 20 years…lots of experience and it will be run like any conservatory program he ran the dance call my D attended and he told them be prepared to work hard and start at 9 am and go till 10 every day… you can read more on the forum I attached the link.

D had an interesting experience this morning. Her theater company is doing a premier this weekend for a very successful very “in the industry” playwright. She was able to meet him and talk with him about her experience with auditions ect. He encouraged her that it is a daunting and very selective process. He mentioned that he has been a part of many college panels and she should stay calm she will get in somewhere. He was very encouraging!!! So stay strong everyone!

I just registered with College Confidential although I have been reading the excellent posts for some time. I would like to share some of our experiences. My S applied to 14 schools, mostly for MT. He was rejected by Ithaca and CCM academically. He did not get a callback at Juilliard. He has been accepted with merit scholarships to University of Evansville (Theatre Arts BFA, walk-in audition at NY Unifieds), UArts (also walk-in at Unifieds) and CCPA. Also accepted at Circle in the Square Theatre School. I’m in the field (a voice teacher). My S worked with me as well as another teacher I trust and two local well-respected drama coaches. He has done 7 leading roles in educational and community theatre settings and performed in several master classes with casting directors and Broadway stars. He is not yet AEA. He has some formal dance training, but not much. Accepted academically to Montclair, but he has not yet auditioned. Waitlisted at Penn State. Waiting on all the rest. My D is a soph instrumental performance major at Manhattan School of Music, so I can answer questions about that school.

Welcome to CC @MontclairDiva!

Audition at Western Carolina University this weekend was good. It is a beautiful campus in the mountains. Met some great students they answered all of our questions. Came home to a rejection from Montclair :frowning:

Sorry about montclair. Glad you liked western carolina

How are people hearing about Montclair? Portal says app was modified in Feb but we have no mail.

We heard from Montclair by letter. The letter said they are accepting fewer than 3.5% of those who audition.

Thanks @boatmom . Looks like she would have a letter one way or another since 3 weeks have gone by since they (apparently) made a decision. Who knows?

Well, if you haven’t had a rejection, that suggests she’s still in the running? But, as you say, who know!

We got a standard letter from Montclair State that looked at first like one of the “welcome to our school” etc… that comes as an acceptance to the college before you get any word on the artistic decision. At first my D tossed it aside but as I read the second paragraph it said" Unfortunately you did not get into the program to which you applied. But we hope you will find another major…blah blah, blah…"

first time poster, long time lurker here! I have enjoyed reading everyone’s posts during this stressful process. We too are waiting on Montclair. D has 4 acceptances, 4 rejections and a waitlist. Waiting on more!
