TCU is a class act. IMHO, they would never rescind an offer & redirect. Clearly, someone has made a mistake. I would definitely email the MT department/Harry Parker and get clarification. My D had a very difficult time turning this program down last year for her current one because everyone (Kids & staff) were so nice and welcoming.
Anyone else still waiting to hear from Ball State? At this point we’re positive it’s a no but would like the official rejection. Especially since she’s academically accepted and they keep emailing wanting to know if she’s enrolling and to put down the deposit. Haven’t received her financial aid letter yet either. Obviously can’t commit if she doesn’t know the finances or if she’s even in the program! Sorry just a little venting Still waiting to hear from 6 schools, but keep reminding myself that 1 more week and the waiting will all be over.
@artsykidsmom - One of D’s friends is in the same situation w/Ball State and her mom called…after some checking, the person she spoke to said that although they have made their calls & notified acceptances/rejections/waitlists, there is a small pile of candidates who they are going back and reviewing video again before they make final determinations. They did not give her a timeframe for that decision, but that was a week or so ago. Maybe give them a call?
@momma2four Hey! I meant to say this before but I had a similar situation with TCU. I was accepted for the MT program and my email said that but it also said “at this time we believe theater studies is the best fit for you at the time”. Harry Parker (the head of the program) quickly emailed me back and said it was a mistake, he apologized and said I was accepted into the MT program! They definitely didn’t redirect you, its was an unfortunate mistake.
So @bringitMT 's son had the confusing redirection message sent and found out it was a mistake and @musicalkid98 had the same thing happen? If @bringitmt isn’t @musicalkid98 's mom, then this is three of the exact same redirect message ( @momma2four included) from that school here on this discussion. That’s a pretty specifically-worded letter–how does that kind of mistake happen repeatedly?
I think it’s a bad cut and paste form letter that went awry. I don’t have a horse in this race but that’s what it sounds like. Embarrassing but things happen.
@lovetoact It looks like it did happen with 4 of us. I think it was a cut and paste error. Harry Parker was very apologetic. We visted after it happened and the campus and staff could not have been nicer. Very impressive program.
@bringitMT Oy! I guess it’s better that the error happened this way, than if you were initially told you were in and then it turns out you weren’t right?
@lovetoact My S is a freshman @ TCU. HE LOVES IT and we as parents couldn’t be happier. I would call.
I’m glad to read, as in the same boat for Elon with a spring acceptance- no thanks. My husband who grew up in
NC at a time when no one he knew would ever consider going there certainly for academics was shocked! Happy to see the school doing so well ha,ha but with high academic spring acceptances, theater or not, its a little much considering all the other academic acceptances already gotten!
@artsykidsmom - we were the same at Ball State but they called Monday with a waitlist notification after we had heard nothing. Also, accepted academically but no financial aid info either…yet…
UGGHH! A rejection and a redirection received literally within 5 minutes of each other. Looks like it’s going to be a comfort food night at our house. At least we leave tomorrow to visit an acceptance school. Hope it goes well cause the options at this point are slim. Four more schools to hear from.
Well, my D got her last rejection today from BOSCO. Kinda sucks. We did get two acceptances out of the ordeal. Was rejected from Pace, OU, ( both from prescreens ) Emerson, and BOSCO. Accepted into Molloy/CAP21 and AMDA. Funny - CAP21 was her number 1 choice, and AMDA was her fall back plan. The rejections still sting, even though you cant explain that its all subjective to an 18 year old girl. My biggest thing is the money that we put out to just get her somewhere. Being a middle class family, with already having one in college is tough to just afford all the application fees, more or less the travel for auditions. I am glad as a father it is over, and we are moving on to accepting an offer and setting up housing, etc… Sheesh - getting kids into college athletic programs is a breeze compared to this process.
I hope she’ll bounce back quickly, @mtandsbdad – I hear good things about CAP21. And don’t forget, even the kids who have a lot of acceptances also have a lot of rejections – they just don’t show up on the list. My son didn’t get in to BoCo either – or to BU, Uarts, Ithaca, Emerson, Oberlin, Point Park… I think rejection is just part of this game, and you have to rise above it and not take it personally, or it will make you crazy.
@boatmom, everyone should read your post. It’s tough when you see kids with multiple acceptances and easy to forget that they probably have as many, if not more, rejections. I know mine does.
Thank you, @CTDramaMom. I hesitated before putting my son’s list of rejections out there for all to see. But I thought if it made even one person feel a little better, it would be worth it. I love our Acceptances lists, but they do tell only half the story.
@CTDramaMom
Nice to see @boatmom 's post.
@boatmom, I’ll add my DD’s so your not alone: Hartt, Ithaca, Pace, Montclair, Syracuse (didn’t pass prescreen), Wagner (refused an audition), Roosevelt, CCM. And soon to add CMU to the list LOL.
Eeek left off my “agree”!! The post was lovely.
Everyone who enters this long odds process gets rejections. It goes with the territory…no matter who you are…just statistically speaking! Denials are hard, but are not a commentary about the candidate. If there were not a lot of rejections involved in this process, then people could just apply to five schools! But they don’t…for good reason!
Looking on the bright side of things, imagine if your kid got into 12 schools. What a huge decision to have to make. It is easier with a reasonable number of options in the end. And the student can ONLY attend ONE school anyway. Options are nice. Getting into a top choice is an ideal, but not super realistic.
When next year rolls around and they are happy in college, nobody is going to care, including themselves, how many schools that got in or which they were. It only seems HUGE now while in the midst of it all!
