The Journey Class of 2020 ... Denials, redirections, etc.

Those willing to put your rejections out there are not only paying it forward but showing how well you truly understand this crazy process. I applaud you. =D>

=D> Agree with @Calliene

(maybe the forum should have a MT Rejection List!!)

^Isn’t that what this thread is supposed to be?

@lojosmo Yes, it is!! Absolutely!! That’s why I started it because I felt it would help us all deal with all the rejections our kids were going to get. If you don’t show the bad stuff, the sad stuff, it’s hard to put the acceptances into perspective. @boatmom and @CTDramaMom, I’ll update the world with our D’s rejections: Rutgers Acting, Minnesota-Guthrie Acting, Penn State MT, Pace MT and, soon to be, CMU Acting/MT. :)) We are in the home stretch! It’s been good getting to know all of you on this board. And I’m so grateful for all of you who have shared your ups and downs on here because I was sure feeling sad and alone in late Feb- early March. Things turned around for us eventually, thank heaven. And they turned around for many others too. Hooray! Now I’m hoping that good news comes soon for the rest who are waiting to hear from a favorite school. Good luck! Positive thoughts coming your way!!!

A trouble shared is a trouble halved. Here goes… rejected at prescreen: Shenandoah, Penn State, Syracuse. Rejected after on-campus audition: Baldwin Wallace (sad but so over it). Rejected after Unifieds:Michigan (secretly relieved), Ithaca, CCM (also relieved). Not yet verified, but pretty much know: MSM, CMU.

Wow, that feels better. We, both son and I, have gone through a helter-skelter of emotions during the process, especially since his first acceptance was late in coming. Feel we are getting to the right place … and he is a trouper and will see the school where he lands as the best place to be. As will most of these wonderful, talented, confident, resilient, and optimistic young people.

Son, Applied: Ithaca, Anderson, Savanah, Pointe Park, Baldwin Wallace, WMU, CCM, Wright State, Manhattan School of Music, Liu Post, Roosevelt, Ohio Northern, Otterbein Columbia Chicago.
Rejected: BW, Pointe Park, CCM, Savanah, Roosevelt, Ohio Northern Otterbein Columbia

Still waiting for WMU, Ithaca, wait listed for Wright State.

I will share too:
Pre-screen rejections Pace, Texas State, Shenandoah, FSU, UCF
Rejections: Montclaire, Point Park, CCPA, SMU (Acting), Temple, U of M,
WaitListed: Drake U BFA MT
Redirected: Ball State BA Theater Arts
Accepted: Dean College BA Theater, SCAD BFA Performing Arts
Still Waiting: Belmont, Manhattan SoM, Hartt, Western Carolina (All BFA MT)

Not exactly what we were hoping for, but we are really hoping for is 1 more yes from the still waiting list and Drake to come through with the offer!!! This is a trying process I have a lot of respect for all of you because I know how hard it was/is. Congrats to all who did get offers and those who do not see offers DO NOT GIVE UP! We have already discussed a gap year and transferring as options if we end up with no viable option, although I believe there is an option here already. What a life we live…and no one understands better than the others on this board.

Oh, yeah, I guess you are right!! Sometimes I forget on these long threads what the title of the thread is. But I guess I was thinking about the format of the Acceptance threads with the lists, more than discussion. Anyway, you all are great and putting it out there HERE!

We just heard from Manhattan School of Music yesterday if that helps.

It is very quiet for the CMU portal just changing.

My D’s decision: for acting (not MT) it was a “thank you, but we simply can’t accept everyone” letter (as expected). Rejection (to add to 3 others)

*I know I am “crashing” the MT board, but you are a lot more active than the straight acting forum. Seems many of us go back and forth.

Thanks for sharing the rejections!! Just shared these posts with my D and definitely made her feel a lot better. A good reminder that she’s not alone. So here’s her list.

Rejected: Ithaca, Pace, CCPA, OCU (redirected BA-Music), BOCO

Still waiting on UW-Steven’s Point, Ball State, Webster, NYU-Tisch. So expecting 4 more rejections

@artsykidsmom Don’t assume rejections from schools where you’ve heard nothing. In most cases, it means your D is still in the mix! That’s a good thing! Congrats on the acceptances to Otterbein and Hartt. Solid programs. :))

I’ve been planning on sharing the rejection list at the end of this process - have had reasons for holding back sharing both acceptances and rejections - will share all in the “decision” post at the end, but I just wanted to say that my D has had a string of them too, and then this afternoon brought great news - keeping mum on a bit longer, but midnight brought a Carnegie Mellon MT waitlist!!! My D went from dejection yesterday to ecstatic jumping around tonight. So hang in there everybody, it is a rollercoaster, and may they all wind up happy with the program they choose! And thanks to EVERYONE for sharing the miseries and humor. Special thanks to @monkey13 for lots of great counsel!

Wow! @rampions that is amazing. Congrats

D is on CMU MT Waitlist too! Congratulations @rampions!

This has been quite the process. We now have officially heard from every school… S really wanted a BFA acting program but applied/auditioned for some Ba safeties. Here’s his outcomes…

Rejections: CMU, RUTGERS, USC, Depaul (back in Nov), Fordham BA
WaitListed: Whitman BA
Accepted: CCPA, Chapman, Montclair, University of the Arts, Columbia of Chicago.
Pondering: auditioning for another arts school.

Now it’s Decision time. I’m curious where he will pick. I know my choice lol

He has a great list, congratulations!!! but I know that “What would I do and letting him/her do what they want”…thanks for sharing.

@craz4mtsmom when did your son audition and when did he hear back from Western Carolina?

@sbc If that msg was meant for him/me thanks! It’s been interesting. I’m curious what he is going to do. His #1 we can’t afford so we took that school off the table since they didn’t offer any $. He has 3 great programs left to decide what he wants to do vs taking a gap year and trying this madness all over next year.

Fingers crossed it turns out how it’s suppose to and be a great experience

@rampion @HappyDancer98 congrats! And we have a whole slew of rejections that I am too tired to post tonite but I will. Today we got a boco acceptance which made our day!
