The Journey Class of 2020 ... Denials, redirections, etc.

@destiny95 she was at NY Unifieds in late January. She is super excited about the visit tomorrow. All these kids have worked so very hard for years. Hope they can all find a happy home where they can grow tremendously! I think all of us are just delirious at this point. Haha!

Just a quick kind of funny story about going to a school after you’ve been rejected from the BFA program. I don’t want to embarrass the school but at the q and a for one school the students told us that going to the school after the rejection can work out well. They knew a girl who was rejected but went to the school anyway and took an acting class her first semester. The professor was so impressed that he told her to reaudition and she was admitted. And then she left and went to Tisch. All I could think was “I don’t think your faculty wants you to tell that story!”

Hee hee love it.

Shout out to all of the NYU-news waiters today! May we make it a few more hours and deal gracefully with the aftermath – good or bad. Cheers!

I have heard of some Hartt rejections going out via email sometime in February so maybe that’s possible we are being deffered. However, on the website it says “All undergraduate decisions will be sent out to applicants by the first week of April.” I still might call today though… I hope you enjoyed your visit! @mtmomofone

@destiny95 I haven’t heard of anyone being put on a wait list for Hartt so it really seems like they have been sending out acceptances and rejections and have some people on hold while they finalize decisions and wait for responses from those previously accepted. Hopefully they’ll be able to let everyone know by April 1. The waiting is so hard especially when others are hearing from schools you are still waiting on. Good luck!

I’m still waiting to hear from Hartt and Montclair…I mean I’m basically committed to one school in particular but I really just want to know about those 2 schools!

@musicalkid98 You should reach out to Hartt by phone or email. My D auditioned EA in December. The notification deadline of January 15th came and went. Others heard. We received a not a word. We finally inquired at NY Unifieds at the Hartt table and were given an email address. Finally received a “no” by email and were told that a copy of the original letter would be sent since my D was academically accepted and may want to still attend. Never received the copy. Never heard a word from Hartt again.

@musicalkid98 We’re in the same boat! My son has pretty much decided on where he’s going, but we’re still waiting for Montclair.

D had to call several times to Wright State. Several times. finally reached someone who asked when she auditioned. Then they never called back. She wrote to the head of the dept. and expressed some disappointment with the process and the apparent losing track of the fact that she even auditioned. He did not respond but the someone did who wrote “Sorry, you are not accepted. Best of luck to you”.

Well, we already figured that.
But D’s note was sent more to alert the head that their process broke down somewhere and they need to fix it.

Anybody who doesn’t hear by tomorrow, I would call - not admissions, but the MT department. Mail gets lost, miscommunications happen. You need to get working on decision-making which can include travel plans.

NYU rejections and waitlists are out…we got a no…phew! My retirement is safe  @-)

LOL @mtmamma2020, Just received our No also. Does it make me a bad mom that I’m actually relieved that I don’t have to be the bad guy who crushes her dreams?

After almost 6 months, 20 applications and 17 auditions, my S has finally heard back from every school so I can now share his list of rejections:
Pre-Screen Rejection: University of Michigan
Academic Rejection: Northwestern
Artistic Rejections: Baldwin Wallace, Carnegie Mellon, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Elon, Pace, Penn State, Texas State* (released from priority hold) (*Accepted Academically)

@Tahuna , you may want to have your son call Montclair. My D had to call them 3 times last year because they kept losing parts of her file.

My results since I got my last decision today!

Prescreen Rejections:
-Ithaca
-UCF
Rejections:
-Roosevelt CCPA (voice emphasis)
-Baldwin Wallace (sent online audition so I’m not surprised)
-Emerson (auditioned off campus)
Acceptances:
-Okalhoma City University (my 2nd choice)
Waitlist:
-NYU Steinhardt (my 1st choice)

What a process this has been! I got rejected from all of my safeties and accepted/Waitlisted into my top 2 which was ironic haha. Kind of bummed about the Steinhardt waitlist since I probably won’t be taken off before the May 1st deposit date, but OCU is a great program!

Just a shout out to all of the parents out there:
Thank you. So much. Just gave my mom a big hug. My parents have dealt with tears, exhausting traveling, an almost plane crash (flying through 50 mph winds to get to Chicago for Roosevelt. Maybe a sign from the universe I wasn’t meant to go there haha), lots of money, shady hotels, etc. Without their love and support I don’t know where I would be! Without our parents, I feel the breakdowns would be a lot worse haha.

Good luck to everyone on CC!!

I heard about a girl last year who put down a deposit on her 2nd choice, then got admitted over the summer from the waitlist to her 1st choice. But she thought that she was committed, so with great sadness, she turned down her 1st choice! I think if people are willing to lose their deposit, it is fine to change your mind later on if new options open up. After all, that means that someone else on the waitlist for that school now gets to go there. It’s like musical chairs – if you give up a spot, someone else gets it.

@myloves Thanks, we were waiting for today’s mail to come - and still nothing. We’ll call Montclair tomorrow, they’re the last one we’re waiting for.

Turned down by NYU. So our decision boils down to – Northwestern vs Montclair! His coach says there’s no contest, he should pick Montclair. But we’ll visit both, just to be sure.

@boatmon, I’m “liking” what your coach said, not that your son got turned down by NYU. You have great choices. Congratulations!
