as i already said, 3.4 is unweighted, 3.9 is weighted
and i go to a VERY competitive hs... ranked top20 by newsweek.
is being in the top60% really that detrimental? UW doesn't even ask for it..

By "top 60%" do you really mean "top 40%"? You say you're a "little-above average" but being in the top 60% (i.e. bottom 40%) is below average.

If that is your case, I would focus on your extracurriculars in your application, and highlight your passions. Also, many of those schools seem like reaches for you. They're definitely not ridiculous, but you want to also have a good set of fit/safety schools.

Anyway, your chance of getting in really depends on the presentation of your application and your ECs, so it's a bit hard to say.

Dude we are in very similar positions. I have a 3.25 UW GPA, competitive school, 2060 SATs. I am also appliying to Santa Clara, Washington, and Whitman. UW has very unpredictable admissions, so I know people who have gotten in with worse and gotten rejected with better stats than yours and mine. Its really a coin flip. Whitman cares a lot about extracurriculars. I think it is a good match. However, as I talked to a kid with similar stats who got rejected ED, which has a 90% acceptance rate compared to 50% RD. The reason was he had a low GPA and not a lot of hard classes. It seems like you take a eavy course load, so that might not be a problem. I think I am going to apply ED II, as Whitman is my top choice. It is a reach for me though. NYU is probably the same. I got into Santa Clara, so I am pretty sure you are in too. I loved it there and will probably end up going. You should look at USC, as they weight GPA. It is a well respected school, the only problem being it is big so you get a state school experience for 40 g's a year. Hope this helps.

thanks!
i wish UW was more unpredictable.. lol
it sucks because i wish there was a clear safety where i'd be satisfied because i would NOT be satisfied at wa state or western, for sure.
i was looking at Uni of Mich-aa and they calculate the grades in a that is unweighted.. plus they only count sophomore and junior year.
.. it actually ended up hurting me by .5 or so,
but i might just apply for the heck of it. nothing to lose, right?

USC is awesome.... go trojans! i might pass though.. since they do not use the commonapp and their essay topics are ehh.

DO you wanna post your grades up because I still don't understand how your RANK can be so low, yet your Weighted GPA so high. Is your weighted GPA on a 4.0 or 5.0 scale?

Hm, all honors and AP courses get an added 1 pt. SO I guess my weighted GPA is on the 5.0 scale? My class rank is top40%, not top60% as said on the first post, btw. Also, my high school is VERY COMPETITIVE. Its in the Top20 List on Newsweek. A person with an unweighted gpa of 3.85 and more AP courses than me barely made the top20%.

my grades.

Honors English 9 A A
Honors English 10 B B
AP English Lit C C

Honors Alg/Geo 2 A A
Honors Alg/Trig 3 C B
Honors Alg/Pre-Calc A A

Pre AP World History A (1 semester class)
AP World History A A
AP US History B B

I am sorry, but those Cs will still look pretty bad regardless of where you went to hs, though, VERY worthy to mention to colleges. I agree to highlight passions and extras, etc It looks like in your English courses have gotten worse over the years...Try really hard to bring the English grade up. Colleges do not want to see a decline in progress.

Hmm, Santa Clara and Gonzaga are pretty good shots. NYU is a reach though, ultracompetitive HS or no; NYU is competitive as well and they'll see you struggling in such an environment.

Thanks. I like the idea of NYC, but at the same time I'm terrified at it. Plus, I am not very keen of their financial aid department.

What do you guys think of Villanova? Their financial aid rating is low (on Princetonreview) but I've been thinking about them for a long time. I already submitted by pre-app and fee.
