You guys did paper applications ?

I did mine on the ssat common app.

Oh I just did mine on their website.

Did anyone else apply to Loomis by the ssat common app? I notice the reg. Loomis app offered an optional graded essay. Since the ssat app did not. I didnt send a graded essay in.

i sent in the ssat common app

I sent in the loomis app but you don’t have to send in an essay only if you think you did really good and you want to show them

I have a really good one. Do you think I should send it even if it`s not part of the ssat app?
I already sent my latest report card.

Yeah, I geuss if you and your teacher agree’s its really good than send it in! :)

The harkness method is used in most english classes, and that’s about it. But if you ask for my opinion it’s no different than just putting desks in a semi circle expect for that the table is pretty but expensive…
The academics are as challenging as you make them. Right now I’m taking three advanced classes, and am undoubtly challenged. There is definitely no slacking off, especially with my course load. If you want to be a slacker, take the smallest course load possible with regular level classes, and you’ll be fine, but…your choice (you do wanna get into college…right?)
yes, we do have snow days that’s the joys of day students! today is our third one of the season. We have awsome sledding hills too! snow days are awsome cause you can get some extra work done, plus its a full day of being able to do whatever you want, and usually the whole campus is open (swimming pool, ice rink, squash courts, student lounge…etc) we also have AWSOME sledding hills :P

i sent in a optional writing sample, i did the ssat common app but i didnt send it out till the 14th, and they said they will email me if an email is nessesary? i sort of feel that my app wont be processed properly

@deerhoch, thats what I`m sort of thinking too.

have you not been interviewed yet either?

I interviewed in the fall. Early Oct.
You`ll be able to ask about your app when you see them.
what grade are you applying to.

the interview hasnt even been scheduled yet… they said there waiting to look at it… i called in early march and they told me to schedule one when everything comes in so i duno whats going on?

That sounds odd. Are you an international student? Are your parents corresponding to the AO?

This is my d’s first year at Loomis (in 10th grade) and we are very happy she is there. Very caring and supportive community, interesting classmates, THE BEST DORMS WE HAVE EVER SEEN (almost brand new, large rooms, big closets, great views, refrigerators OK, full kitchen down the hall - she makes baked treats every week). Beautiful campus, nice small New England town that is a very short walk, and transport on weekends to nearby movies, malls, skiing, etc.- Hartford is 15 minutes away (convenient airport). A wide range of academics from post AP to regular college prep classes, and a truly outstanding performing arts program (she is a dancer, there are over 10 dance classes at several levels of difficulty to choose from (modern, ballet, hip-hop, etc.) very popular with a fantastic staff - recently expanded) also a great writing program. Arabic language and very good team sports are other draws that make Loomis stand out. Great ice rink - her community service activity is teaching a community learn to skate program.

Sounds awesome. Do you know if most dorms doubles or singles ? I heard that Loomis was cutting down on the day student population, is that true ?

^^ A little but not much. They are thinking about moving it more to 70/30 than the current 60/40. This would entail building additional dorms, which they are considering.

Are they going to make this change over one year or spread out ? For example, are they going to have a higher admit rate for boarders this year and a low admit rate for day students ? Or are they going to gradually decrease the amount of day students over the next few years ?

Yes, interested here too in how quickly Loomis can/will change the % of boarders. If they have to build new dorms to make a 10% change, it may take awhile. Would love to find out what is planned here.
