I'm just wondering... What do you guys actually want to hear about. You see, I want to major in Biology, but so do all other 30% of applicants(according to what I've read). So I honestly doubt that you want to hear me talk about how great JHU's program is... after all, everyone knows that. I'm just guessing, but I'm thinking that you would want to hear about my interest in Biology and why I want to go into that major rather than about how awsome the major is in Johns Hopkins (after all, how many times can you read the copy-pasted list of Nobel laureates before zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...?) I mean, I integrated that into my essay, but it's not what the essay is about. But I could be wrong and you could be asking to see just how much research we've done and how informed we are in our want of JHU...
So which one is it?

Are you using the Common App? Because the essay that appears on Hopkins' own application is nothing like that at all.

ok... let me clarify...
yes, im using the common app, but both essays r the same: Johns Hopkins offers 49 majors across the schools of Arts and Sciences and Engineering. on this supplement, we ask you to identify one or two that you might like to pursue here. Why did you choose the way you did? If you are undecided, why didn't you choose? (If any past courses or academic experiences influenced your decision, you may include them in your essay.)

what im asking is: should i talk of myself or of JHU?
I already made an essay abt myself and why I like Biology, and I sort of integrated why JHU is right for me, but i rely didnt elaborate on it... should I?
Should I speak of the details of the Biology department and why they fit me, or should I speak of myself and why I would rather go into bio rather than, say, visual arts...

i talked about the personal journey that led me to my major, and less about why johns hopkins is right for me. they know that they have incredible academics. what they don't know is why you belong there and why you have passion for your intended major.

so, any way you see fit, show them.

i wrote about my journey too, just like flybyzephyr. but at the end of essay, i wrote a small thing about why i want to go to Hopkins to study what i want to.

Yeah, I did the same thing as most other people. Talked about what led me to my field of interest, then explained why I wanted to study this field at JHU.

I don't think I once mentioned Hopkins in any of my essays.

In answering the required "Academics" essay there is no one way we want the essay prompt to be interpreted. And sorry I can't provide any advice.

You can interpret the question and answer it any way you choose. I'd say that what an applicant chooses to write about matters as much as what they actually write. It is why we are vague when creating our essay prompts.

Good luck.
