The MOB/MOG Dress Extravaganza!

@himom, does that mean you’ve heard from your son that your husband should wear a suit, and that navy is an appropriate color?
My son got married last year, and we were able to take advantage of Nordstrom anniversary sale for my husband’s suit.

For those looking to rent tuxes, Nordstrom has an excellent program. Men can go to any Nordstrom to be measured, and the tuxes ship direct with everything (even shoes if they want them). They are also good about quickly sending other sizes (we had to get a different size coat for my husband). When done, just stick everything back in the box and ship it back (comes with a postage prepaid sticker.)

We sent S a photo of H in THE suit and S asked when it could be tailored (pants obviously unhemmed). I’m thinking he’s happy with H’s new threads for wedding.

We can have me try on both dresses next to H in new suit and figure with dress looks better.

Now, we have to find D a dress. She never found one for the 4 weddings and other events she had in 2022! She’s a petite 00 and picky so had to fit. I’m feeling lucky so will start searching for her.

Are you sure your daughter will not be asked to be a bridesmaid?

It hasn’t happened yet, so we are guessing maybe she won’t be. We did ask about if there are colors they don’t want D to buy her outfit in and haven’t heard back. I’m thinking they may not have a wedding party but don’t know. We are just happy we found H a suit he’s happy with and looks good in. Phew!

D can and will find something. If she’s in wedding party, she can use some nice new clothes. She’s been wearing an adorable dress we bought for her cousin’s wedding—15 years ago. It still looks great and she looks amazing in it, but yes, she can use more nice clothes.

@HImom your daughter should look at RealReal. Many designer dress options for pennies on the dollar, and those designer sizes run… true to size. Our small by US standards. Meaning a Marchesa dress size 2 will be like a 00 Banana Republic or similar US brand.

Just want to pass along some advice. If you are wearing heels (unless they are very comfortable) you might want to also have a pair of comfy flats to change into (I like Rothy’s, but whatever works for your feet). I ended up shoeless throughout my daughter’s reception as my heels were killing my feet!

I’m wearing my new wedding shoes right now, @FallGirl. They were comfortable out of the box, but I am “wearing them in” (and around) just to get totally used to them, especially since I’ve been hobbling for the past year due to my (now replaced) hip. These are the backup (dancing/late night) shoes in case I don’t find those imaginary Cinderella slippers I’m fantasizing about. :magic_wand:

(I edited my shoe post above to note that I did buy the sparkly sandals as insurance.)

Very nice. What is the brand?

The shoe says “Camille La Vie”

Beware some chiffon wraps…I bought one at Nordstrom to wear at a cousin’s wedding last fall. It didn’t last longer than getting to the venue before I smushed it up and shoved it in my bag. The hem was fringe and not finished off and there were threads galore all over me and my black velvet dress. :rage: It went back the next day. I think I must have brushed up against something because there were snags as well.

I’m a big fan of cashmere wraps. I have a cream colored one and a black one. Really, they work in just about any weather.

You may ask your daughter to check out Jean Wang’s blogs. She is petite and I like looking at her style, though I am a bit old for most of the things she wears. Perhaps your daughter can find some inspirations in her many posts. Her website is fun to browse through.
Here is what she has for some wedding occasions though she has other dresses throughout her site.

I’ve read suggestions of wearing silk, denim or velvet/velour with sequins so you can avoid snags. cashmere and similar would snag. Of course i’m not thinking of denim but could think of other heavier weave fabrics.

@BunsenBurner have your cashmere wraps ever snagged? Mine haven’t and I’ve worn them over things with sequins and lace.

Only if the cats sink their claws in, lol! No, the Nordstrom tissue weight wraps don’t snag on sequins or beading. I also wash mine all the time in cold water/air dry. It doesn’t shrink or pill either.

That darned cat….

Do the cashmere wraps stay in place on their own (from weight of the material)? Or do you hold them or use some other method to keep in place?

I really don’t need anything to keep the wrap in place. I just drape it loosely over the shoulders and elbows. Kinda like in this picture (not me pictured lol):

Great—I have a Nordstrom tissue weight cashmere wrap I can use with my dress—whichever I choose.

I have never worn my tissue cashmere shawl with sequins. I was nervous about snagging the wrap (only have one and love it).

My wrap is salmon-colored or I could buy another color.
