The most annoying question high school seniors get, and how to deal

“Everywhere she’s gone during the past few months, high school senior Katie Phelan has been asked a variation of one question: Where are you going to college? … ‘The topic is almost unavoidable,’ says Phelan, who attends the private Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, Maryland. Even though she knows that most people are well-meaning, and that some are simply using the question as an icebreaker, it’s nerve-racking. ‘The more I talk about it, the more I realize how stressed I actually am.’” …

How many times have you been asked this question?

I’ve gotten asked this question before I’ve even applied yet. It gets frustrating, especially when asked multiple times. It’s also interesting because the people who often ask over and over again are people who don’t understand the admissions process, or at least the one of today. They think that you apply and hear back in a week or two, but for a lot of schools, it could be a couple of months before a decision is released. It has become routine for me to say acceptance letters haven’t been mailed yet. I try to avoid the question because it brings back decision anxiety, but it’s almost inevitable, especially when you visit family.

Oh, and to answer the question. If I had a dollar for every time I was asked a question similar to this, I’ll be able to afford college tuition without financial aid.

I get the question almost every two or three days. I just say I don’t know and move on with the conversation. At this point, I don’t feel stressed out about decisions. I’ve done the best I can on my behalf; if the college doesn’t me- fine (but you’re missing out) and if they do- awesome. I’m fine either way.

@tigerman333 I feel like that most of the time my only thing is I hate waiting. I always try to move on, but for some reason, people keep gravitating back to the same subject.
