The National Society of High School Scholars

I just got this letter in this mail telling me I've been nominated for membership in The National Society of High School Scholars. The website (<a href="http://www.nshss.org%5B/url%5D">www.nshss.org</a>) makes it seem pretty legit, but it does ask for an entrance fee of $45 or something.

Does anyone know if this is a real thing or a scam?

Scam. You should not have to pay an entrance fee.

You pay $45, you get to put NSHSS on your award list. They get your $45 and spend it wildly. It has NO value to your admissions chances. Same thing like "Who's Who In American High Schools"

Scams

Haha I already got accepted to college so it REALLY doesn't matter. I was just curious.

Yeah my guidance counselor said that its a plain old scam...

Rule of thumb:

Any society that indicts you after a fee is worth as much as the paper you letter will be printed off.
The only legit honor society seems to be NHS.

Any summer school you need to pay tuition to attend is also not worth helping towards the admission process.

It says that there are fee waivers if you suffer financial hardship so you can't really say it's all about the money..and why does everyone say you have to pay to be Who's Who.. i got in without paying anything you just don't buy the book.
