The new IEEE 802.11n network at Duke

Does anyone know if they plan to cover Central with the network also? OIT's website only specifically states East and West but not Central.

If they are not going to do Central, there wouldn't be any point in upgrading my existing laptops for them.

On a related note, has Duke released any specs or info on the implementation of such a network? It would be nice to know whether they have any plans to broadcast on the 5GHz spectrum vs. only using 2.4GHz.

Looks like you may be out of luck. From the chronicle article about it:

"We plan to use some older equipment to provide coverage in residence halls on Central Campus until the renovation of Central is complete"

Wonderful...by the time the renovations are complete I'd probably be using cellular LTE instead of 802.11 hotspots.

Considering they are planning on tearing down Central eventually, I doubt it. By eventually, I mean within the next 20 years.
