The New School BFA Acting Program

vivalaben-does this mean you are now accepted?

Photomom-Not officially but I thought I would further investigate New School since I found out including myself there is only 5 students on the wait list and hopefully they’ll be able to start informing wait list students in about 2 weeks per one of the admissions counsellors. So I wonder if for me it is worth still considering because I’m getting a pretty good amount currently from Pace but I’m not accepted into any of the performing arts majors there.

Hi there – wondering if everyone who is committing to The New School is doing student housing? Thanks!

If my son goes, he for sure will be in student housing with a meal plan…

I got the official news that I am accepted into the first BFA program at The New School for Drama!

Congratulations, vivalaben2012!!

Vivalaben2012, that’s great news! Congratulations

Congratulations Vivaleben2012!

Congratulations Vivaleben2012

Visited the school today and put down our deposit. And my son is going to live on campus. Really want a dorm and a meal plan for him!

Photomom5 did you tour any of the dorms? If so, could you give your impression of them? My daughter will definitely be dorming as well.

mayberry95- I toured the dorms on 13th Street which is the midway point between The New School for Drama building and the main building, also the closest dorm I believe to the drama. The building was really nice and the rooms were standard college dorms as far I’m concerned. Each student gets a bed, closet, and desk and they can arrange their rooms how they like. I believe the options range from single to quad with the size of the room growing to accommodate to that number. The rooms don’t come with a fridge, microwave, or television but you are more then welcome to bring your own. There are also multiple single person bathrooms (toilet, shower, and sink) per floor. There is a mini cafeteria with hot meals located on the lower level with full working staff and other snacks. This particular building is directed towards underclassmen so smoking and alcohol aren’t allowed in the building but at other buildings you can have alcohol if you are above the age of 21 and don’t share. There is also a laundry room, a tv room, and a really nice deck area out back. You also must purchase the meal plan with this dorm.

Photomom5-I guess it was you and your S that I met during the tour of The New School for Drama building with Marlon yesterday! haha

Yes…now that I look carefully at your name, it was you! So funny…

We also toured the dorms and Vivalaben described it correctly. They encouraged us to consider the 13th street dorm as it is mostly freshman and a good idea socially as well as location wise. The cafeteria is smaller than I pictured but works for the kids. The room I saw was a (somewhat messy) quad but it was roomy and did not feel cramped. The eyes of an 18 year old see things differently than an adult. I asked about the new building’s dorms and the student was kind of blunt…he said it will be mostly upper classmen and socially, they already have their social groups and are not much interested in freshman. I really appreciated his honesty.

Thanks for the info vivalaben2012 and photomom5. Based on location alone, the 13th St. dorm seemed to make the most sense - good to know it seems a pretty decent place overall.

Is anyone still waiting to hear back???
I had my interview the 7th and I’d be transferring in from a liberal arts college up in MA. I’m a playwright though…not an actor
I really, really, really hope this is not bad news :frowning: I LOVED the school and the program. Hopefully others are still waiting!

littlepea, you need to contact the school on Monday morning. You should have heard something, did you sign into your online account?

I did and they said they were missing one of my recommendations. However when I called two weeks ago they never mentioned it. And then when my dad called a week later, they still never mentioned it.

I would hate to call again, because I dont want to be a nag/stalk them. But if it is what you recommend, I will follow your advice. I’ll shoot them a call tomorrow morning!

Thanks so much!

littlepea123, just to calm your nerves before tomorrow: sometimes transfers hear back well after the freshman class has been notified. I’m curious to know more about the playwriting program at New School. Good luck!

littlepea…we could not get my son’s high school transcript to the right office to save our lives…the school sent it 4 times in a two week period (in addition to the original one). We finally sent it fedex. So, I was on the phone with this school numerous times…and did not ever get the impression we were bothering them. Have you spoken to Marlon, the admissions guy? If not, I will get you his contact information, he is amazing and so helpful.

@photomom

I called this morning, and unfortunately I got waitlisted. Hey, waitlisted is better than rejected…always have too look on the brighter side of things  The mix up was, they mailed my letter a couple of weeks ago…however it must have gotten lost or something because I never received it. So I spoke to Marlon (I agree…he is very helpful, very amazing, and absolutely wonderful/nice…and I remembering meeting him during my audition/interview) and I gave him my home address instead of my school address. I should be getting in in the next week or so…it will be there when I get home :)

Hopefully there will be hope for me getting off the waitlist knocks on wooden desk
