The New School

Can anyone tell me about The New School? How do you like it? What’s the social life like?

What division or field of study are you considering? My son applied to Eugene Lang (albeit 5 years ago), and one of his best friends went there? It’s very weak in the Sciences, so I would not recommend applying if that’s where you’re inclined. It is in a great location, near Greenwich Village, on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. They offer Merit Aid; it’s fiendishly expensive without it. It is very liberal, with a flexible curriculum.
New College is affiliated with Pratt Institute, if you’re interested in Design.
Eugene Lang is relatively new, founded as a liberal arts college for traditional students in the 1980s. The New School was originally founded for non-traditional students, serving adults and part-time enrollees, especially among the city’s immigrant communities.
We liked Lang/New School a lot when we visited, although they did not admit my son. There is not much of a campus, per se, but the student body is quite small, and so you will probably get to know fellow students pretty easily. Like many other liberal arts colleges, it has roughly twice as many female students as male. You won’t find any team sports or Greek-letter organizations there, either. It’s definitely for students who want to be in the heart of the city.

I was thinking of studying Architecture there
