Chercheur,
Thank you for checking. We’ll just have to wait.
@Emory85 can you afford the $45 added fee to take the AP exam on the late testing date? They are typically scheduled after all regular testing dates have passed and the location might not be at your normal testing site (my school sends kids to a nearby high school that offers the late testing dates). The college board site will have the late testing dates, but I don’t remember if they could actually tell you sites that offered late testing or if we found a site through a local google search. It seems that your school could probably step it up and offer the late testing themselves since they are creating the conflict for top students… I hope your kid gets their due recognition!
NMF in Southern California, notified by school!
NOTHING in Eastern KS. Extremely frustrating, for various reasons. Congratulations to those who got word today!
Nothing in Tulsa, OK.
@Moocat85 nothing in the OKC metro that I know of. We are waiting, too.
I was at a CCP meeting for DS21 tonight, so I asked GC afterwards if she had received NMF letter yet for DD18 and she said yes, she has the Letter and DD18 is a NMF! She said they were just trying to figure out how and when to give DD18 the certificate and they were thinking of giving her the certificate at senior awards night in May which would be a nice honor but that is 3 months from now, so I’m wondering were they planning on telling her before then that she is a NMF? Of course, I was thrilled that to hear confirmation that DD18 is a NMF! But we actually need the letter and we have a deadline of March 1! I told GC that DD18 does need a copy of the NMF letter to submit to her college in order to get the scholarship that the school awards for NMF. She wasn’t aware of this, so she said she would give her a copy tomorrow. Good thing I ran into GC tonight! So for those of you who are waiting to hear from your schools, they may actually have a copy of the letter already and are trying to figure out how or when to tell your kids? At least that seems to be the case for us.
Yes @emory85, as @10bates suggests, we actually rescheduled 1 AP test for DD16 because she took 8 AP tests her senior year and she actually had 2 AP tests on the same day at the same time. The makeup session is already set, it was like 2 weeks later, and She took it at our school even though she was the only one taking the test. Our school agreed to do this for her. I think it was $45 like @10bates said and we paid the $45 through our school but our school set it all up for us through the AP board. You have to meet the deadline to apply for the alternate date, I think it was maybe Early March? She was kind of relieved to spread out her tests by a little bit by moving the one test a little later.
DS got the certificate at school 2/12 (Ohio)
NOTHING here in NH And to boot, S18 asked his GC today and she said she hadn’t heard anything from National Merit. She’s not one to be coy or purposefully deceive, so I’m pretty sure she hasn’t gotten anything That’s just crazy, right? Unless the principal got it and not her, but I can’t imagine. She handles ALL that stuff usually…
@moosiechica88 Fwiw, my letter (homeschooler) was marked “ATTENTION: PRINCIPAL” and specified in the lower left corner “To Be Opened By Principal Only”, so it’s entirely possible it was sent directly to the principal instead of the guidance counselor.
Nothing today in Northeast PA despite a different PA school receiving theirs several days ago. I’m sure glad I’m not on the fence or this would be a little too much. I’ve gone from happy anticipation to wanting it over and behind me.
I mean, I get that the high school has 3000 students and that the principal has a lot more to do than open mail, but DOESN’T HE KNOW MY KID NEEDS THAT LETTER? Dude, step away from the budget planning, take a break from addressing the vaping-in-the-school-bathroom issue, and go shake something loose in the mailroom until you find the NMF packet and call these students out of class already! :))
just go ask the principal- my D went and he said oh yeah, here it is congrats- guess it’s not a big deal to some, of course if it were a state athletic award it would have been broadcasted to the world
Really, many of the teachers & administrators have no clue how big a deal this can be, financially. My DH, a high school teacher, has a colleague whose son is NMSF this year & we have been walking him & his wife through the process & letting them know of schools that will reward him for this. It’s totally new to them & this is a teacher with 20 or so years at a high school.
I bet if the envelope held news of the principals $100K plus bonus, he/she would open it sooner!
Has anyone had any word at international locations?
Just saw on the 2018 National Merit Finalist Thread that someone in West suburbs of Chicago today saw an incoming USPS letter to DS from NMF.
@iahomeschoolmom Yes, it seems the principal had it and they were given out today! I wonder if all five kids moved on. He attends a small day school (75 graduating seniors), so five NMF as well as three US Presidential Scholar candidates is a HUGE deal. BTW, I homeschooled S18 through 8th grade and am currently homeschooling D20 and D27. Gives me hope to hear of so many homeschoolers qualifying for this award! D20 won’t be going to any NM sponsor colleges either as she has chosen to either go to a Christian college or to the local flagship college that gives ZERO money for NM. But it’s still inspiring to hear of so many homeschoolers achieving such a coveted award. It’s not very common around our are for that to happen.
Finally got the Certificate today in N. Florida. He was given a note to pick up something in the office and the secretary just handed it over. You would think it would be a bit more of a thing, as he is the only one in his graduating class of 339 to be Semi Finalist even.
Either way, we are thrilled and this will give him a fully paid UG at FSU.
Still waiting in San Diego. I couldn’t take it anymore, and fired off email to my D’s Principal. No response yet, but I’m certain to pay a price for this with my D.
