The # of UChicago 2019 EA applications?

Hi! has anyone heard how many people have applied EA this year? I've seen some other schools, that have posted their numbers for ED. Has anyone heard?

Well, we won’t get total numbers until after the 15th, when the EA decision date is.

That said, according to them, the new finaid program has caused a flood of apps.

Really? I applied by the deadline and wasn’t at all notified about this…what is this new finaid program?

Also, will people who have applied by the deadline have any advantage/disadvantage?

Hi Barbiegirl127975. UChicago recently announced a wide variety of improvements to their financial aid program that will begin with the class matriculating in 2015. Your eligibility is not affected by the date you apply or applied, although you may have neglected to take advantage of the application fee waiver.

UChicago tends to be very methodical about releasing its numbers. Last year’s EA numbers were announced 11/25. With the application deadline extended this year, I would expect to hear something around 12/9.

I don’t know anything exact but I know alumni got an email saying that they had “an impressive number” of applicants this year, so maybe it was larger than last year’s.

Methodical is hardly the adjective I’d use to describe Chicago’s release of numbers. Nor timely.

When did they release the EA admission rate? You can safely assume that Grace will continue to dodge questions artfully as ever.

Fwiw, Chicago just admitted a bit over 50 EA applicants.

EA numbers were announced on November 25th last year and December 7th the year before. I wouldn’t read into it.

UChicago received over 11,000 applications for EA alone this year. Just got an email from the Office of Admissions. An alum & interviewer here.

11,000 apps for EA!!! My poor kid…she’s not going to get into any of her reaches…i better go buy chocolate bars for the 15th…and beginning polishing up those State U t-shirts! :0

@Genomedipity‌ How does this compare to last year’s number of EA applications?

There were 11,000 EA applications last year as well:

<a href=“Early applications to College set new record | University of Chicago News”>http://news.uchicago.edu/article/2013/11/25/early-applications-college-set-new-record

11,143 applied EA last year.

It’s interesting that the numbers from last year and this year are so similar, even with this year’s addition of the new financial aid program and the two-week extension of the EA deadline.

The deadline was extended last year too. I’ve said a few times that Chicago’s remarkable application growth will stabilize, and I think we’re starting to see that now.

Edit: Or, to be more accurate, we saw that last year with the dip in applications. Now, we should see an upswing due in part to No Barriers, but I doubt it will be that significant.

@kaarboer What was the reason for last year’s extension, and was it also two weeks?

Officially, all the issues with the Common App. Speculation had slow numbers as the culprit, but I personally doubt that.

My initial guess was slow numbers, but the late unveiling of No Barriers could have very well been it, coupled with Common App issues. This is just making me more nervous

11,000+ EA apps: odds of acceptance are very slim for even the most qualified. D is mentally preparing for a rejection, but hoping for an admit. It could be a happy birthday/merry xmas (her bday is the 20th) or not so much! She’s keeping it in perspective and not expecting anything. Deferral is a gray area for her. Gotta keep plugging away on RD apps…Best of luck to everyone.
