EA Deadline Extended to 11/15?

Did anyone get the email from UChicago?

Yes

won’t you get looked down upon if you submitted an EA app after the original 11/1/ deadline?

Yeah I got the email so do that mean I can still submit my application by Nov 15 or just the financial portion by that date?

Students who are applying for need-based financial aid may continue to submit their applications through November 15. This includes both application material as well as financial aid forms. This is meant to assist students who learned about UChicago through our No Barriers financial aid announcement, which came out later in our admissions cycle than we would have hoped (mid-October).

I don’t want to sound bitter but I really would have liked the 15 day deadline. Because i was applying to a couple other schools (early for scholarship/honor deadlines) combined with being in a very rigorous high school I didn’t have that much time to write, finish, and polish my UChicago app. I understand why they want to extend their outreach and all, but I don’t know if it’s fair to us who honored the deadline.

I understand that my application wouldn’t be “so much better”, but if I had time for other teachers and adults to look over my essays it would have made a difference for me :/

I’m applying for fin aid but UChicago never told me about the extension?? I got an email with “UChicago’s No Barriers Financial Aid Instructions” as the subject but nowhere was it mentioned that the deadline was extended.

@Audrae did you already submit your application on the original due date?

Audrae: I’d imagine that if you need or want to amend something you could.

D got the e-mail; she had just missed the deadline, and tried calling the admissions office on Monday, but could not get through because of the high volume of calls. If you need to amend the application, try calling the school and see if that is an option.

@NJProParent is your D going to submit EA application now? With the extension.

@UChicago Will the EA notification deadline remain the same or will it be later because of the extension?

I’ve already submitted, but if I’d know I might have looked over my app more carefully. Did they make the extension before or after the original deadline?

I received the email yesterday, so after.

@skieurope same here, I am switching my app from RD to EA. I originally wanted to EA but didn’t have enough time to finish one of my supplements. Will I be looked down if I submitted my app now? With the extension?

Since they’re offering the extension, I don’t think that submitting your application before the 15th will be looked down upon, IMO.

Goshdarnit UChicago! I rushed my extended essay trying to meet the deadline lol, the extra days would have been good for me.

Hmm hopefully the extension doesn’t cause a surge of applicants. I think the initial numbers were low and the only reason they could chalk it up to was the late notification of “No Barriers”

@SweetIceTea, yes, D is planning to apply EA with the extension.

@Anduar3, I believe UChicago when they said they had a big surge in applicants because of No Barriers, and I’d expect a lot more EA applicants now. Their phone lines were besieged on Monday.

I am assuming these are students who don’t really care about the school, but are only applying because it’s free.
