Admitted, and 90% chance I'll be going. It's my first choice.

Hey guys! I just got my acceptance and I agree, sweet folder! haha I think there's a pretty good chance of me attending, as I was deferred by MIT and am only applying a couple of other places. I'm excited! Congrats to all of you and it's good to be among you!

huzzah! Just got the acceptance letter today. I'll probably be going, depending on the outcome of harvey mudd and MIT (deferred).

Wow it looks like Caltech will be filled with MIT deferrees.

Not so much, that's more than anything a sample bias on this board. Personally, I turned down Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, and MIT to come to Tech and that's not all that rare.

By the way, quite a few of you deferrees will be hearning happier MIT news in March.

Another MIT deferee finally accepted to Caltech after waiting for the mail for sooo long. Whether I attend will depend on MIT's decision and final cost (based on financial aid) compared to some other schools.

At this point, my son will also turn down MIT to attend Caltech.

As would I, but I'm withdrawing my MIT app.

props to you tencia! You're being nice and opening up more spaces so MIT can accept more people who want to go there. (unlike one kid at my school who already got into Stanford and is applying to MIT because his father wants him to)

But if MIT is truly underadmitting this year so that they can fine tune numbers with the wait list, it probably won't make much difference if you get accepted and don't go, right?

~Christopher

Korin fox, you know Rachel Mok, right? She mentioned that she had another friend who got into Caltech and said that was your screenname.

haha yeah, its me... I know her

what's with the MIT deferred all getting into Caltech :P I was deferred MIT and admitted Caltech... seems we all have something in common. But really, shouldn't those that get into Caltech be admitted to MIT as well ( i mean... both are tech schools, right? and if one is admitted caltech... bah whatever)? It's been bothering me alot.

haruhara -- MIT, for a variety of reasons, decided to be supercareful this year about early admits. There are many reasons. Getting into Caltech gives you a very good statistical shot at getting into MIT eventually. Just relax and wait for spring : )

Ben

I disagree with Ben. If you're female, getting into Caltech EA probably means that you have a goot shot at MIT. Among the males I've discussed admissions with, I've seen more cross-admits to Stanford than to MIT (and quite a number of males still applied to MIT).

Just got mail today...NY, admit...yea, they def mailed decisions on different days. Several of my friends who were deferred/rejected found out last week.

Yeah, I got deferred to MIT, and I will apply to Caltech Regular Decision. I don't know what their standards are, or if you have to be exceptionaly (5 800's, 4.0, etc...) to be admitted. I know I am not (I am good [avg. 760 per test, 3.88], but not exceptional), and I hope I get admitted. I will most likely go to Caltech if I get admitted (MIT, there is little chance to get in there after deferral). I am excited, nervous, and eager to get my acceptance letter.

Actually, you probably have about the same chance of getting into MIT now as you had of getting in early before. The percentange of people admitted early is about the same as the percentage of deferred people that get in. I hope that helps.
