Nice_try09: if you're in-state, I'd say Berkeley's a slight reach, since you're applying to engineering. Otherwise, it'd be a match.

is it hard to transfer to engineering?

To transfer once you're at Berkeley, or to transfer to engineering from a CC? In any case, it's hard. Not impossible by any means, but comparatively harder (than other majors).

I meant once you're inside Berkeley....but i mean it's definitely possible if you do well i your classes anyways right?

Yup. Some say that difficulty of transferring to engineering within Berkeley is overblown. (I tend to agree.)

SAT: 1990. Reading: 620. Math: 690. Writing 680, 9 essay.
SAT II: Math II: 710. Bio E: 720. US History: 530
GPA: Unweighted: 3.8. UC: 4.04. Weighted: 4.12
I'm not sure if I'll be retaking the SAT one more time, but I will be taking the ACT in December.
AP: Biology 3, US History 2. I will be taking Calculus BC, Macroeconomics, and English Language and Composition in May of next year.
Rank: 1/16

My school is a religious, Jewish school with a double curriculum consisting of Judaic classes in the morning and Secular Classes during the afternoon.

Journalism 1 year
Drama Club: Lights and Sound manager 1 year
Baseball Team 1 year
Member of Bnei Akiva (Jewish Youth organization, the biggest of its kind in the world)
90 hours of volunteering for the school

From March till July 2007 I worked for a clothing store. I was in charge of the clothes it sold on ebay (which were brand name, such as Seven Jeans, Gucci, Prada, etc.) and packaging and shipping them to their buyer.

During Summer of 2006, I volunteered for the Russian Jewish Community of San Francisco. I was in charge of the various databases and making sure they were in order. My total volunteering hours for this was about 200 hours.

During Summer of 2005, I did more or less the same thing, except I was paid for this by a program called MYEEP, a program funded by San Francisco.

If it helps, I'm fluent in Russian (It's my first language I was born in Kiev, Ukraine and moved to the US when I was 7), and also speak some Spanish and Hebrew.

Major in Business Administration or Economics

rusoboy23: Are you in-state? If so, then I'd say slight reach. If not, then it's a reach.

So it is harder to get into the college of engineering if you are in-state than if you are out-of-state?

All the in-state admissions are noticeably harder for OOS, whether that's for L&S or engineering. So, it's harder to get into the CoE OOS than it is in-state.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE (:

@eechang: Average applicant. Slight-reach.
P.S. Check your UC GPA, a 4.4 UC GPA is extremely high especially since you have a 3.89 UW. I have a 3.86 UW and only a 4.23 UC GPA. I had the exact same stats as you, but I somehow got lucky and my SATs boosted up 200 points from the November test. Best of luck for you!

Essays:
"well developed" and non-cliche essays

Can you guys please give me your honest opinions on my chances at UCB, UCLA, UCI, and UCSD electrical engineering? Also, could anyone tell me if it is possible to go into UCLA undeclared (which I hear is a lot easier), and then transfer into Henry Samueli School of Engineering? Because I really want to know because I plan on being a part of a computer science business later on. I plan on getting an engineering background then going into a business graduate school.

Thanks so much!

eechang: your GPA is strong (though I agree with Castel -- you might want to check that), the SAT is slightly weak (mainly in math), and the SAT IIs are strong, though your ECs and honors/awards are somewhat weak as they don't particularly distinguish you. Being a low-income student may help. I'd say slight reach - reach.

chances please?

instate, male
low-income

unweighted gpa: 3.915

Thanks.

pick: you have a strong GPA and great SAT scores, along with (I assume) good ECs (if by "clubs," you mean you have more ECs). Do you have any other honors/awards? I'd say slight reach - high match, though it depends largely on your essays.

UC GPA (capped at 8 semesters i assume) 4.09
Unweighted GPA (10-11) 3.84
Weighted GPA (10-11) 4.31
