hotjava64: Good SAT and GPA. You'll have no trouble with Davis and Irvine; UCSD and UCLA should be fine, as is Cal.

anyway?: If you raise your SAT a bit, you should have a good shot. You have a strong GPA and ECs, as well as SAT IIs.

California resident,

Competitive public high school (sends many to top schools including Ivys)

Cumulative GPA: 93 unweighted (my school doesn't do it out of 4.0) and I don't know what the UC GPA would be. Probably like 3.7-3.8 uw?

All Honors and/or AP classes...and this means 3 AP classes total. I know that's a shocker to some of you, but my school doesn't offer very many at all. This won't hurt me, right?

Rank: 16/300...Top 5%

SAT:
CR-540 (yea, i know...)
M- 660
W- 740 with a 12 on the essay
I working very hard to get that total score up to a 2050-2150. I understand that my CR needs a lot of work, but right now I'm getting in the 600's on practice test things. I'm retaking in Oct and hoping to reach my goal.

ECs Please note that I moved and therefore switched schools after my freshman year. There many seem a slight inconsistency in some activities because of this.

Speech& Debate Team (9th)

Other Summer Stuff
-Did some research in a Genetics Lab at URI. Did everything from PCR to Extracting DNA to helping with a primer design. My professor said she would write me a strong letter of rec. Would this help?

-Will be Interning at InCube for a few weeks at the end of this summer. It's a biomedical research company in northern CA.

-In summer 2006, I went to India and for about 2 weeks and did some community service there. My grandfather lives in a small (rather poor) village, and he also works in a nearby clinic which treats patients from that area. I worked and helped in that clinic, and will be most likely receiving a letter from the government consulate for my services.

I will most likely pursue something in biology or the medical field. What are my chances assuming I will bring up my SAT score to a 2050 or better?

SAT:
CR: 720
W: 680

Do I have a chance? My SAT is on the low side and I don't have many extra curricular/volunteer work??

I know my chances are terrible, but is it worth applying at all?

Unweighted Average: 94.22 (since 8th grade, all courses honors or AP.) I took AP Biology in my junior year and plan to take AP Chemistry, AP Physics, and BC Calculus next year (elective limitations in my school prevent me from taking more than 6 APs in junior and senior year combined)

Out-Of-State resident (from NYC...ouch.)
I go to a semi-public high school; it's run by a public college system in NYC but still gets some Board of Ed. funding (I think), and you have to take a test to get in. I guess you could call it an "advanced" high school? idk

SAT Reasoning Scores: math 690, critical reading 800, writing 790 (cumulative 2280)
SAT II Scores: biology 800, chemistry 800

probably applying to the college of Letters and Science (planning to major in biology)

extracurriculars
*member of the varsity track team in 10th and 11th (and planning to continue in 12th) grade, have medaled consistently in cross-country and placed 7th in New York City in the 1500m racewalk during the junior year indoor track season
*currently have an unpaid summer internship working for a researcher in cell biology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (actually doing the procedures involved, not just like washing out test tubes lol)
*previously had a paid summer internship in horticulture working at the Central Park Conservancy (and volunteered at the Conservancy prior to that), volunteered at an environmental center for two summers, volunteered for the Queens Public Library for one summer. I don't have that many extracurriculars because I live an hour and a half away from my school and have to spend a lot of time commuting.

Other schools I'm looking at include: Cornell (first choice), Wash U, Emory, UNC - Chapel Hill, either Yale, Harvard, or Stanford (reach), Texas A&M (safety), SUNY-Binghamton (safety), UC-San Diego (safety)

Yeah I have no chance haha. I wish I lived in California :(

asian, boy
UC GPA (How do I calculate my UC GPA?) 4.6 (including community college classes, which i'm assuming counts...) without those classes i have a gpa of 4.51. ) senior year classes will boost my gpa too right? i'm taking all ap's + honors.
Unweighted GPA: 3.8

and i will have kickass essays. ;)
chance for ucla too, please!

^count only your soph. and junior grades(no college) and you calculate your UC GPA taking the amount of points you receive for UW GPA and add the points for weighted courses with a maximum of 8 points(say you have 10 AP classes, you would only count 8 as weighted and the other 2 as unweighted)

Do you use your semester grades or full-year grades?

...I guess I have to take that IIC Subject Test after all, since my Subject Tests are both in the same area. Aw, shucks.

Also my UC GPA is 3.9 (using semester grades) if that means anything to anyone.

GPA: I want to say 3.9 out of 4?

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone even look at this anymore? I posted two weeks ago, and still have no idea what my chances are.

I doubt it. I think you'd have better luck posting on the What Are My Chances? forum.

What are International students chances as compared to In-State or OOS?
How popular is Computer Engineering major?

Chance me too, please? :D

Super competitive, Asian high school in California. -_-
UC GPA: haven't calculated exact yet.. somewhere between 3.6~3.8
(I know, it's realllly bad!)
BUT there's an upward trend from sophomore year to junior year.
No APs, but I did have 3 Honors junior year.

SATI: 2070 CR 640 M 710 W 720
Retaking in November.

SATIIs: Math 750. Chinese 730. Taking Biology in October

ACT: 31 composite. Should I even bother to put my ACT score on the application? I'm not going to retake it ever though.

ECs: Colorguard/Winterguard (Best rookie freshmen year :P). Tons of Girl Scouts leadership activities and awards. Worked at children afterschool-school this summer. Interned at a pharmaceutical cancer research company in Canada this summer.

BUT this is the main thing I'm wondering if gives me any nice edge to my application, since my GPA is my admission killer:
I'm in this program called College Advantage for senior year of high school. Kind of like middle college in most places BUT this is more for high-achieving kids who want the college classes and environment. Basically, my courseload for the whole year is college classes at one of the best community colleges in California. (De Anza, which the UC's recognize and have good relationships with.) I'm hoping to get all A's in my college classes this year. (Too bad the UC app is due before I can show them my college transcript..)

I know that my academics and EC's are not that impressive. And I'm hoping this senior year will really improve my application.
Thanks, especially if you read all that! haha

UC GPA: 3.96, with a strong upward trend. Very few honors/AP classes at my school though. Should be 4.14 by end of senior year.
UW GPA: 3.73
W GPA: 3.80
(are the W/UW supposed to include freshman year? if they aren't they're actually:
UW GPA: 3.88
W GPA: ~3.9)
SAT: 2140 (770CR, 780M, 590W- I'm retaking, hopefully bring up writing.)
SAT II: 800 math2 / 590US hist (I know...)
In-state
Mathematics major
ECs;
4-year academic league
I know my ECs suck very badly.
what do you think?

De Anza, huh. What HS is this, bruinj? :)
