This is for all of us (and there are a lot) that were deferred from Duke. I was just wondering what we have been doing since December, and what we will be doing until April. Did everyone write a letter to the admissions officer? Anyone have a case of senioritis? Any suspicious new club presidents?

I'll start...I have avoided catching senioritis...and because of Duke. My grades have actually gone up a little. I've played two varsity sports (both expected...) and started a club (Would Thou Rather Society...not really a "club"...in fact, my school made us promise not to include it on college apps).

I am extremely anxious to get my decision from Duke...although since my deferral I have been looking at a lot of other schools more closely (probably subconsiously to protect myself from extreme dissapointment and failure...).

Ahh!!!! I was so excited to see this post...because everyone knows the deferred club is full of cool people such as yourself. No senioritus here. I've had the worst 2nd semester senior year ever...as in I hardly ever get to bed before 2...and I hardly ever do anything on weekends. AP English...score.

I'm still diehard Duke, and I still want to go there more than anything, but I realize it's a longshot so other schools are looking alot better now. And the countdown is certainly much less painful...

Good luck kids!

I am also awaiting an acceptance from Duke; however, I have an severe case of chronic senioritis. Keep working hard and Im sure it will result in a positive outcome eventually. :-)

nckid101:
hmm...your class rank doesn't show...as the plan failed and I rest miserably at number 7. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

Atleast Tuesday morning brings free food to make my late nights doing AP English much more worthwhile.

Ah yes, nothing like a good senior breakfast! Its the least they can do for us! ;)

I think guidance should host a "these are the coolest senior who applied to duke" breakfast, even for those of us who ::cough:: didn't get in.

hey now, dont add yourself to the list yet... I'm sure as heck not!

thanks for your confidence nckid101. Well wherever we end up we'll both be successful. That was corny.

Ooh, I feel special... if (I mean, when) we all get in, we should continue this club throughout college. lol.
Since December, I have risen in class rank, kinda. Before, I was 12 out of 226 (5.3%). Then, our class rose to 252 people, and I remained 12th, which put me in the top 5% of the class. That's it academically. I haven't caught senioritis yet... though my schedule is much easier than first semester. I did get a paper route, though, so I find myself up at 3:30 every morning before school. I'm giving my 30 day notice soon because I can't keep my eyes open during the day, lol.

I did write a letter to admissions because my grades went up a bit, one of my fall semester teachers used my film as a teaching tool in his spring class so I mentioned that & had him send a rec letter. Whatever... Still longing for Duke but basically have given up on it.... got into Michigan honors & Univ of Miaim - 75% tuition scholarship, both safeties but at least in somewhere! Still waiting on Northwestern, Cornell, Emory, BU,NYU and Magill.

eh i would be part of this club but sadly i will never know cuz this is my first choice school but i applied and was accepted ed2 to emory
ive also had senioritis sadly lol but did move to new school so hopefully i don't get rescinded good luck all. you all deserve it.

Well Emory is an awesome school and you'll do great there:) I've gotten into Elon and Georgia Tech, still waiting on Virginia Tech, Emory, and Wake Forest. All of us Duke deferred kids applied to Emory! lol.

Although I have yet to be defered...I'm really nervous! Good luck y'all!

not a deferred kid, but a soon to be rejected kid...luckily i have elon to fall back on which i may add is an awesome school and i am still waiting for wake forest, w&m and furman. good luck deferrals you all seem like amazing students!!

hey other deferrees... I asked this question before, but it was lost amongst other questions in another thread... do you think that we have a 1 in 10 chance of getting in, since our letter said that they accept roughly 10% of deferred students, or is our chance a more obscure number?

Well they say roughly, so who knows.....i guess it depends on the general applicant pool. Did any deferees get the likely letter?

Again, it doesn't seem likely that any deferred applicant would receive a likely letter meant for the top 350 or so applicants of 18,000+; if you were up there in the first place they would have just accepted you. However, you definitely still have a chance, and I am rooting for all you guys--good luck!

Duke is my first choice... Since that rainy day, December 15, 2004, I've been accepted at Boston College(EA) and Georgetown(RD), so I'm not desperate, but my heart is still at Duke. Good luck to all of you.

hey, I just went to a music festival in Connecticut. We rehearsed and performed in Durham, CT at Coginchaug RHS, home of the Blue Devils. Signs, anyone? :)

I had so many signs...unfortunately it didn't work out...
