The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

Sorry I hurt your feelings friend. I hope you get in to all your schools and have an enjoyable education.

@socaltransfer14ā€Œ

To be fair, we have no obligation of any kind to help out next yearsā€™ transfer applicants by keeping this thread free of speculation. I didnā€™t feel entitled to a speculation-free UCLA transfer thread from last year and Iā€™d like to think Iā€™m not alone. Even if I am, my fellow transfer applicants donā€™t deserve the assistance of a year-old thread. Itā€™d be nice, but we arenā€™t entitled to it and I donā€™t know why we should be. It logically follows that we have no reason to adhere to certain guidelines in this thread(other than the obvious ones that apply to all forum topics) for the benefit of next yearsā€™ transfers.

Damn you guys take this forum thing seriously huh

@onehandedredā€Œ

College Confidential has a way of doing that to you. :D

Itā€™s just the heat that comes naturally every year the week before transfer decisions no biggie.

@Caytonā€Œ

I didnā€™t even see your post when I posted that haha, mostly reacting Ramonaā€™s post

@onehandedredā€Œ

Oh, ok then lol

Haha, my younger daughter got the mail, came in and said, ā€œEmilie, you got something from UCLA!ā€ We all almost had a heart attack.

This is what it was:
Good news - she got a Regents Scholarship for $14,000!
Bad news - itā€™s for Merced.
WHY???
:(( :((. :((. :((

@lindyk8 hahahaā€¦ But Congrats to your daughter!!! Still this is a very good sign

@lindyk8ā€Œ

Lol! Did that make your daughter consider UC Merced now?

God, I hope so @lkm291ā€Œ. I told my daughter, hey, you can always say in passing, oh yeah, I got offered a regents scholarship once. And theyā€™ll go great, where? And then you cough real loud to hide the answer, heheh.

@cayton I just read you are taking political philosophy a few pages back. If you donā€™t mind me asking who are you taking it with?

@TheUnderdog1ā€Œ

Iā€™m taking it with Steven Kurvink right now. Heā€™s a great professor. I recommend him even though political philosophy can be a dry subject even for a philosophy major.

@cayton I was going to take him, but his late classes didnā€™t mesh with my schedule unfortunately. He is definitely awesome I took my first Political Science class with him, and became a Poli Sci major because of it. Donā€™t know if it was him, or maybe I just found what I wanted in life, but regardless he was definitely a great guy.

I am taking it with Oifer instead. He is pretty cool too. Has an interesting way of teaching the subject.

@TheUnderdog1ā€Œ

Thatā€™s great to hear! Iā€™ve heardā€¦interesting things about Oifer. Iā€™ve avoided taking his class because heā€™s gotten some bad reviews on RateMyProfessors and one of my friends took his political philosophy class and didnā€™t like it much. Still, others like him and his teaching style.

@Caytonā€Œ
Yeah, I got to be honest he is very specific with what he expects, and he expects a lot. So I spend a lot of time in office hours trying to really grasp the concepts, and apply them.

The issue is Iā€™m starting to mentally check out. So itā€™s more on my end. Too busy thinking about these forums, and my acceptances, and where Iā€™m going to move, to spend much time on his class recently. I think I will be better after we get out decisions this week and next though.

@TheUnderdog1ā€Œ You mentioned taking Oiferā€¦are you in his Scholars section of his regular Poli Sci/Philo 51 section?

@Cayton I agree with you that Kurvink is a great professor. He definitely played a big part in me becoming a Poli Sci major.

@lindyk8 Hahahaā€¦ Hopefully she can brag about having both the acceptance and the scholarship from LA :slight_smile: (The next week or two will be tough for all of us :-S )

@SoCalLife310ā€Œ I am not in the honors class. I am in the 9:30 one right after.
Which Kurvink course did you take, and when?

Good luck to you too, @lkm291ā€Œ, but she never got any emails about applying for any Regents, and UCLA sent out the requests already. She just wants to get in. Itā€™s gnawing away at the whole family. I actually fantasize about that moment of her clicking into the portal. Itā€™s gonna be gut-wrenchingā€¦ @-)
