The official GWU Fall 09' Transfer Blog

To anyone else who has done the transfer housing application… did you get to rank dorms or was it just a very short roommate preference questionnaire?

I called the housing office and they said transfers don’t get to pick, we get what is left over. Good luck i guess.

clarix917, I got the weirdest answer yesterday when I asked about this, I’m still kind of perplexed. But to sum it up, I was told that applicants whom they find have incomplete apps at this point are going to be directed to apply for spring 2010. If your application is complete and under review then it will be looked at. However I’m feeling there is a little more to the story as I have been told different things several times this week when I called. So I have NO IDEA. They said they should be reviewing my applications any day now, but I’ve been hearing that for over a month so who knows.

Clarix and Ctc, did you guys apply for fall 2009 and then get accepted to spring 2010?

I applied for fall 2009. Its been almost a week since they told me I got in for the spring and my page still says under review and I still haven’t received anything in the mail. I would really like to know if I will get credit for all my classes. Oh, and I forgot to mention before that I was a legacy (My dad went there), but I heard it doesn’t matter that much to GW. I am kind of nervous to transfer mid-year. I’ve always heard its harder to make friends when you start mid-year, but I don’t really want to wait until the fall of my junior year because then I might not graduate within in four years. I am definitely going to GW though and I can’t wait!

tshudel:

Hmmm…suspicious…but the incomplete transfers will be directed to APPLY for spring, which is no guarantee of acceptance for the spring. Mine was complete and I was told I was accepted, but not admitted. They said they already looked at mine, even though it still says “under review”

Yes, I have been told several different things. But I wouldnt worry about it, as every admissions rep (and I have spoke to several) have said that they cant offer admission to any more transfers, as the pool is too full. This is due to a higher than average freshman retention rate for this year. Even year by year, it usually hovers above 90%. Ask specifically to speak to a senior admissions officer, they will tell you the full story.

I applied for fall 2009 and was accepted for spring 2010

ctc2007:

It will still say “under review”…yeah, they’re lazy, I suppose. They said people will get stuff in the mail in late-August.

As for transferring mid-year and making friends, i’d be worried if it were a small, cliquey school (like mine now). However, GW is one of the largest private schools in the nation, so i’d imagine that it would be impossible not to meet new friends!

I have met many people at GW (since I can ride the metro from my school) and I dont even attend classes at GW!

Only thing stopping me from attending GW is financial aid…yeah, i’m paying for school myself…so hopefully, I should get a nice offer! =)

president_44:

Do keep in mind that housing is very good! All the dorms are converted apartments or hotels and I have been in several of them. Only thing im worried about is how far i’d have to walk to get to class lol!

I was wondering if anyone received their welcome packet after turning in their declaration of intent?

odyssey07:

I thought the welcome packet contained the declaration of intent. If i’m wrong, whats contained in the declaration of intent packet?

the declaration of intent packet has what your courses transfer as, your official acceptance letter and then the form for declaration of intent. you are supposed to get a welcome packet after you return your declaration of intent that explains everything else.

odyssey07:

Oh I see thanks! Is there a deadline for declaring intent? I will be sent mine soon and I was accepted for Spring 2010 after I couldnt be accepted because of a full Fall 2009 transfer class

the deadline for fall 2009 was june 12 but i am assuming it is different for spring 2010 especially since you just heard from gw recently

Clarix:
There is a two? week time limit from when you receive the form. Honestly though, you have quite a bit of wiggle room with sending the form back. Did they actually tell you that you were accepted for Spring or that they would move your application to Spring admissions? I only ask because they lost some of my application last year and moved my application to the spring but didn’t give me a decision until the Spring.

Odyssey:
I haven’t received a welcome packet either. I sent in my declaration of intent roughly a month ago. I was wondering if and when we would get welcome packets. Hopefully we’ll get them soon…

odyssey07 & ldivine:

Since they didnt have enough room for me in the fall, they bumped my acceptance over to the spring. I wont have to re-apply, since I am already accepted.

Perhaps I would have some wiggle room to send in my intent form, since I am accepted for the spring

Just to let everyone know, I created a facebook group for GWU transfers for fall 2009. Also I have another question, when do we register for classes because originally I had thought we would at CI but I heard we might register over the summer? Does anyone know?

Did everyone get pretty good financial aid from GW?

Odyssey,
I already registered… still working out a few things but registered none-the-less! If you go to MyGW then WebInfo System (on the left) you can register. I would register ASAP and then check with your adviser to make sure all your transfer credits are assigned and your newly registered classes fit in with your degree plan.

Clarix,

I think you’re right about how easy it is to make friends at a big school like GWU. I am so excited, I don’t want to wait until August for my packet!

ctc2007,

Emailed one of the admissions people and they said I should be receiving my admissions packet in 2-3 weeks, even when someone on the phone said late-August.

Oh well, I will keep the admissions person who emailed me to his word

Hey guys, I got in, but I applied for the 7 year BA/MD. Did anyone else apply and know if they got in for the same thing? It didn’t say on my letter of admission it just said I got into the College of arts and sciences.

I have to say that admissions and in general the staff at GWU are the most unorganized incompetent people I have ever spoken with. You call one person and they tell you one thing…you call someone else they tell you the opposite. It’s been a month long battle of phone calls for me and I’m kindof sick of it.
