The Official "I got off the waitlist at" Thread

Hopefully my font isn’t too big.

So - at the risk of “jinxing” my son who has not heard yet - and for future reference and gnawing and grinding pleasure of waitlistees to come - please include whether you will attend or not.

I got off the waitlist at:

McGill -Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Science
Waitlisted on 3/29. Accepted 4/28 -Arts and 5/02 -Science
Good luck to your son. Stay positive!

Congratulations! You're apparently the first one!

nycstudent578 - did you get a phone call, a letter or an email from McGill?

First I noticed that my Minerva profile was updated. Then I received an email stating that an offical acceptance letter and package was being mailed. Haven't received package yet.

Please post if you've heard news of your waitlist status!

FYI - I just called Northeastern Admissions and they said that we would hear before June 1 (which I knew already) and that they generally notify you by letter, not a phone call. I guess I was hoping they would share a little more of a specific timetable. From the archives it looks like people heard from Northeastern as early as the 1st week of May last year.

Husky, good luck to you--think of Winston Churchill--
Never never never give up!
It ain't over til it's over---

Congrats NYCstudent! I'm going to McGill too (Education). You must have been so thrilled. What faculty are you chosing?

Just wondering why Americans are picking McGill? Is it solely the price or is it really as good as the Ivy League?

I'm an IB diploma candidate with French as a second language. My interest is in foreign language, linguistics, international relations, etc.
I fell in love with McGill when I visited a few years ago. I took the campus tour then and liked what I heard about the program.
McGill and Montreal seemed to have all I was looking for.
Also, McGill has experience with IB Diplomas whereas most US schools really don't.

Hi Non--
I am very happy. I will be chosing Faculty of the Arts.
Congratulations on your acceptance too!

Thanks! My sn is jonstewart4ever if you ever want to chat about McGill.

AnotherMom--McGill is the second best school in Canada, and it's equal in reputation to some very respectable American schools...one kid I talked says he saw a ranking where it was higher than Cornell...said kid is biased because he's obsessed with McGill, but still, it's a great school, way better than most American schools which cost way more. Inexpensive, great educational opportunity, "awesome" does not BEGIN to describe Montreal, very high diversity (making it easy to find a niche and explore new things), top-notch music school, great in sciences while still being very good in arts, one of the best schools for debating in the world, intelligent student body...everyone is nuts for NOT applying to McGill!

Most Americans consider McGill the NUMBER ONE school in Canada. It has even earned the nickname "The Harvard of Canada"

My brother just got off the waitlist at Wake Forest.

i got off the waitlist at Lafayette.

Congratulations to your brother Calidan!!

Congratulations lemonandlime!! Maybe we'll see you at the big football game!

Did they call or e-mail or did you get a letter?

As far as McGill, it was one of my son's top choices. We vacationed a couple of times in Montreal and it truly is a fantastically interesting place. My grandparents came to the U.S. from a small town outside Montreal so we had that connection too. We researched the school and found it to be very comparable to other U.S. schools that he was applying too and much more affordable than most without factoring in scholarships. In the end, my son chose another college, mostly I think b/c of the combination of distance and the cold weather.

Mcgill, along with Univ of Toronto and UBC are the best schools in Canada and are often compared to the American ivies, as well as other world-renowned universities. Mcgill is also significantly cheaper =P

I have a friend who only applied to Canadian schools and chose Queens College in Canada over McGill - anyone know what that's like?

(sorry, i know this has nothing to do with waitlists, but it was being discussed)

I got off the Wait List yesterday at Wake Forest University! YAY! :)
