Or...you could jsut become really stressed out about college.

Ever since I became obsessed with JHU, I've lost about 10 pounds. I literally lost my will to eat, and when I do, I throw up because it makes me sick.
For energy, I just take lots and lots of caffeine- that way, I can stay up and do work without falling asleep from lack of energy.

Wow.
I've had the opposite thing happen to me right before AP exams last year -- I'd eat and eat and I'd gain ten pounds.

Am I the only one here who doesn't see junk food as a "treat"? I prefer whole-grain bread to white, and I'd rather eat a fresh salad with balsamic vinaigrette than something greasy and deep-fried. I don't eat candy either; I just don't like the taste.

I'm the healthiest eating person I know, but somehow I'm still not losing weight. :(

Typical day:

07:00 - cereal, soy milk, orange juice, tea (200-300 calories)
10:00 - energy bar (200 calories)
12:00 - something from home (100-300 calories)
16:00 - snack of some sort, tea (0-200 calories)
20:00 - whatever my parents make for dinner (400-600 calories)

Assuming that I didn't mess up on the calories, that's 900-1600 calories per day (and because I occasionally eat more than I planned, I'm going to say 900-1800, but 900 days and 1800 days are both pretty rare). That sounds like a reasonable number to me, so I honestly don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Granted, I haven't really had the time or energy to go to the gym this year, although I do walk home from school most days (30-40 minutes)... even so, most people don't seem to need hardcore exercise several times a week to lose a couple of pounds, but aside from the first few weeks of veganism, that's the only thing that's ever worked for me.

Me too. I dont like the taste of white bread.. I only eat wholegrain. I do not like mcdonalds or wendys or any fast food outlets (including subway..is that fast food?). It's too oily and greasy and all that fat in the meat when I squeeze a cheeseburger grosses me out. I usually grab a piece of fruit than a suger coated chocolate covered caramel thingee. But I do have a sweet tooth couple of days before my period!

camilia: how tall are you and how much do you weigh?

I'm 5'6 and 110 lbs. Before you tell me I'm already thin and shouldn't lose weight, I should explain that I'm extremely small-boned with no 'curves' or muscle mass to speak of... so even though I'm at a pretty low weight I have a relatively high body fat percentage, which is what I'm trying to get rid of.

the reason you're not losing it is because you have no muscle. i doubt you have any "fat"...you should just try and tone up.

tinas, I know exactly how that goes. last year before AP exams (took 5...bad choice) I lost so much weight. I was too stressed too eat, threw up when I tried to.

oh, and I have a pretty serious caffeine problem. I don't recommend it to anyone for any reason, ever. Don't start. Yeah, I lost a lot of weight. But it isn't really worth it.

my recommendation: get really sick! haha, just kidding. But seriously, I kept getting strep last year and I lost so much weight; I looked pretty awful, to tell the truth.

Camelia--I agree with surfette.....and you know something you're probably fine how you are ...love your body dude...and not everyoen needs curves and all that...I'm a bit taller than you, weigh less than you ....and I've got muscle mass

i have a caffeine problem too. haha ^ 5. although its not a good thing. :/

ok... umm, im gonna be a certified personal trainer at the end of the year so maybe i can help

if you want to lose weight, dont do long distance running or hours of cardio work. the best way to burn fat is SPRINTS. short, quick exertions burn a lot more fat than long walks. If you do sprints you can lose a lot of body fat... just keep ur heart rate ^^

try usmthing like... get on a treadmill or an eliptical and go 30 seconds as hard as you can, 30 seconds norma, 30 as hard as u can, 30 normal etc...

in terms of what you eat, you guys need to drink more. half the time the human body makes the need for fluid into the deisre to eat. if you drink a lot of water and make sure you are well hydrated you get less cravings and such

there are also certain "negative claorie foods"... i.e., foods that take more energy (calories) to digest than they will give you... foods like carrots, celery, apples are like that...

when you do eat, eat more fiber. if you eat more fiber it makes you fuller quicker. look for high fiber foods

ALWAYS EAT BREAKFEAST. the way to burn fat is to increase your metabolic rate. your metabolism doesnt start after you wake up from sleeping until you eat something... so have a cup of yogurt or an apple or a banana on the way to school so that your metabolism can get going

if your going to have snacks, first drink som water. wait 5 minutes. if yuoure still craving some food, grab an apple or another piece of fruit and drink some more water.

if you are REALLY REALLY hungry and havent eaten for awhile... good foods for you are chicekn. even low fat steak is good... but you want to increase the protein count on days you lift or do the sprints because then you gain muscle tissue

ladies, i know you dont want to get strong but seriosuly, lifting weights is the way to go. as long as you dont lift heavy weights for low reps you wont become a behemoth... turst me

lift weights doing a fullbody workout (ask your pe teacher or weight room manager to make you one)... to inrcease results, 30 minutes after you lift DRINK PROTEIN POWDER SHAKES. they dont do anything bad to your body and help you gain muscle.

this is how lifting works. when you lift weights, th emuscle tissue tears. you gain muscle mass and can lift more cuz the body repairs it self. if you drink protein powder 30 minutes after, you are immensley helping your body rebuild the muscle

also, having more muscle mass increases your metabolic rate which decreases fat... always good to gain muscle

NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER work out the same muscle group two days in a row... and sometimes you will wnat/need more than one days rest. even if sore usualy work out, but allow yourself extra rest time. several reasons. first, dont work out same muscle group twice in two days cuz your body neds the time to repair it... youre just hurting yourself by lifting too much

also, a lot of time the body can gain incredible amounts of muscle wih extra rest... every other week maybe bench only on mondays and thursdays so that yoru body has thte itme to recover... and then do it mondays wednesdays fridays and usually just do sprints on the weekends

hope ive been able to help you... GOOD LUCK WITH UR FITNESS GOALS!

(btw... almonds are good to eat... even though they have fat they have the good kinda fat and give you some essential proteins)

What's an elliptical?

Its like the treadmill.....on skis?

http://www.elliptical-trainer-reviews.com/images/product-images/Spartan.jpg

the perfect solution for weight loss
1. stop eating fast food and all fried foods while ur at it...all of it. just stop. its greasy and has tons of fat and is just gross
2. look at nutritional menus before u go out to dinner
3. run or find some sort of exercise-great stress reliever as well. once u get started you'll like it
4. dont be lazy
5. eat a healthy breakfast-kickstarts ur metabolism for the day (poptarts aren't healthy. less sugary cereal, oatmeal, and fruit are healthy)
6. dont skip lunch-a lot of people at my school do this. again, skipping meals can actually slow down ur metabolism
7. don't be anorexic-u get disgusting teeth and your bones show..its even worse than being fat
8. those 100 calorie snacks=pointless. u can use ur 100 calories in much better ways

And they taste extraordinarily!

Most importantly, stay healthy. And remember that you're actually supposed to be gaining weight since you're growing (in height) and perhaps your body's set point is more than you weighed before.

When I'm stressed I eat less. Thus I lose weight. And it's bad. But sometimes I'm so into compulsively working that I just work through meals, because I hate breaking my compulsion.

And skinny does not equal healthy.
Anorexic does not equal not eating. Anorexia is a mental disorder. It is the mindset that constitutes anorexia, not the actions. If you starve yourself because you think it's going to make you thin and that's really the only reason you're doing it you're just plain stupid.
Anorexia is a whole different thing.
You can't "be anorexic" just out of the blue because you want to be thin. That's as stupid as saying "be schizophrenic," since both are mental disorders. Just pretending to have hallucinations and pretending to be in psychosis DOES NOT MAKE YOU SCHIZOPHRENIC. Starving yourself DOES NOT MAKE YOU ANOREXIC.
Eating disorders are misunderstood medical and psychological issues. The retarded media skews everything.
Plus don't go around telling skinny people they are anorexic. That's just dumb. What if they had cancer? Whipple's disease? IBS? AIDS? Many medical problems can cause one's body to waste away--it's not just anorexia. Furthermore, you need not be thin to have an eating disorder.
In a nutshell, "anorexic" is an overly misused word, and anorexia nervosa is an often misunderstood disorder.

Done rant/lecture.

The world is screwed over and we can't do anything about it but watch in utter disgust. :) I'm going to go break a chair now.

ahh, psycho, I was scrolling down to type just that same rant. Thanks for doing it for me & saving me the effort :)

ok this can all be summed up quite concisely. stop eating unhealthy food. exercise regularly. you will start losing weight.

easier said than done, though
