The Official M10 2021 Freakout Thread

People asked me what Andover was…I said it was a boarding school with a 10% acceptance rate and they assumed I’d get in because i’m the “smart girl” well that didn’t happen…but like i’m glad bc i high key would be the dumbest person there LOL

Honestly I didnt know about any BS before deciding to apply

I’m sure you would definitely not be!

I knew Lville and Hill. That’s it lmao

i wouldn’t if i tried really hard, but i’m also not up for that much independence. it just wasn’t a right fit.

LOL. My counselor thought I’d get into Hotchkiss. same student who asked if it was hard at Andover also never heard of Exeter. When I told them basically what you said, they asked me if it was my safety. I laughed too hard :joy: my area as you can tell isn’t too well versed with bs.

Lmao - some kids at my school have heard of exeter but less seemed to know Andover.

LOL! I know someone who is a sophomore at Lville and was sure I’d get in…the waitlist happened though. It’s okay though because Hill is different in a good way for me

Admissions this year was way harder than normal - you probably would’ve gotten in if it were a regular year

I’d assume my school wouldn’t know about Loomis, counselor only suggested Hotchkiss and Andover. Glad I found it tho, I’m gonna love it there. When i told a close friend about my results, they didn’t know what waitlist even was😀

Your middle school had guidance counselors?

ours did

Yup! However I only met with them once for them to ask a few questions to write a rec. at the end they suggested hkiss and Andover

My mom actually hired a counselor for her to ask questions (also me but i handled most on my own) about interviews, essays etc. So they helped me with the rest of my list

lmao i’m close with my gc from middle and high school.

I started new at my current middle school, so I definitely had very little connections lol. Didn’t help that I’m online. We also started the application process last minute and far too late starting near end of November, sooo many things were rushed. Recs were a huuuuge flop. I have good relationships with them now tho:))

Oh, cool! I also started the process late and it was kind of insane to try and figure everything out in such a short period.

Right! I heard it’s best to create a list based off your ssat scores, to see your range. But nope, we were far too late to try to do such intricate things lol. Everything was go go go!

I’ve never heard of doing it that way, but it makes sense.

How did you guys decide you wanted to apply?
